Wrestle Review:: Taking Over
Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 10/03/2020 at 02:55 PM

Before I get into Takeover tomorrow night, let's go over the other events of the week that stood out to me. Wrestling has always had a way of giving away something that, by all rights, should be saved for pay-per-view. For instance, WWE has Sasha Banks vs Bayley for the Smackdown women's championship next Friday. You'll hear "this shouldn't be on a random Smackdown! This should be on Hell In A Cell". Well, who's to say it won't still happen at HIAC?

On the other end, Cody vs Brodie in a dog collar match is happening this coming Wednesday on Dynamite. I figured they'd save that for Full Gear. What you'll likely hear is people who prefer AEW over WWE say how stupid it is for them to gove away such a big match on their regular weekly show. Those same people won't say the same about Cody v Brodie. They'll say "can you believe how great AEW is?! Look at how great they are to their fans"! I watch both. Sometimes I enjoy both. Sometimes I enjoy one more than the other. That's ok.

Judging from Smackdown last night, Alexa Bliss truly is under the spell of The Fiend now. Fiend attacked Kevin Owens which immediately leads to Owens vs The Fiend next Friday night. "But why is Fiend wrestling on Smackdown? He's a special attraction and should only be saved for Network events". Let it go and just enjoy. I know that's hard for some. Now, onto Takeover!

Kushida and Velveteen Dream will go one on one Sunday night. Kushida needs a high-profile win at Takeover. I say he gets it over Dream.

Santos Escobar will retain the cruiserweight championship against Isaiah "Swerve" Scott. I'm fairly certain the rest of Santos' group gets involved in this. Most anytime someone says "oh, it'll be one on one", it's usually not.

Damien Priest defends the North American Championship against former champ Johnny Gargano. Johnny Takeover could complete his part of the golden power couple of NXT if he wins. Will he? I wouldn't put it past him.

Candice LeRae could complete her part when she challenges Io Shirai for the NXT Women's Championship. I think it's a little soon for Priest and Shirai to lose their titles. It'll eventually happen. Maybe they'll do a tag match with both titles on the line at some point.

Fin Balor defends the NXT Championship against Kye O'Reily in the main event. I can't help but wonder if they'll pull a Randy Orton deal here. You remember when Randy won his first World Title. Evolution acted all happy for him. They put him on Batista's shoulders and Triple H gave Dave the high sign to drop him. I could see a similar think happening if Kyle wins the title. I don't think he wins the title, though. Fin retains. Maybe they'll pull the trigger on the UE betrayal next Wednesday. Maybe we're all just thinking that's what they'll do.

The WWE Draft is next week and you wonder who moves shows. Kevin Owens bringing The Kevin Owens Show to Smackdown last night makes me wonder if maybe Owens doesn't get drafted to Smackdown next week. I'm guessing a bunch of new feuds will begin next week, or maybe the same feuds on a different show. Will any titles change shows? Maybe the IC title goes back to Raw and the U.S. title goes back to Smackdown. The possibilities are endless. I look forward to seeing who goes where.

What are you looking forward to next week? It's a pretty good bet that quite a few things will be shaken up! That's definitely a good thing from time to time.
