Wreste Review: The House Rules
Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 05/16/2020 at 12:28 PM

With the announcement this past Wednesday on NXT that In Your House will make its return June 7 after decades of being dormant, it brings a lot of flashback moments for fans like me who remember those '90's events. I can pretty safely say one match that will happen at this event. This past week, Punishment Martinez(WWE calls him Damien Priest) revealed himself to be the man who attacked Fin Balor weeks ago. I like this move. For one, they're pushing a "new guy"(well, new to NXT) by giving him the Balor rub. It'll really put him over if he wins at IYH.

Anybody else notice that three(four if you actually want to call NXT a separate company-I don't) are holding tournaments for vacant championships? I dig this because I love a good tournament! The latest tournament to begin, of course, is the Intercontinental Championship tournament. I'll run that down in a bit. The tournament that will end first is the TNT Championship tournament in AEW. Lance Archer vs Cody Rhodes to decide the first champion. Next Friday or Saturday I'll drop my Double Or Nothing predictions. For now, though, on with this week.

Impact is holding a tournament to see who faces Tessa Blanchard(sometime), for the Impact World Championship. I do see an eventual ladder match with Moose, the self-proclaimed TNA Champions, against the Impact Champion.

WWE has stripped Sami Zayn of the Intercontinental Championship. It's a move that has outraged many fans and, reportedly, many backstage as well. There's a "report" that Sami Zayn could want out of his WWE contract. Funny, yesterday the report was he didn't agree with the decision. I'm taking the wait and see approach as far as Sami's WWE status is concerned.

For now, though, a tournament began on Smackdown to crown a new Intercontinental Champion. Daniel Bryan beat Drew Gulak to advance last night. Elias beat Baron Corbin to advance. That makes sense if they do what I figure they'll do. Drew and Corbin are having a non-title match. Monday but I figure, for whatever reason, Corbin could be the next challenger for Drew. Not sure how that happens unless he switches shows with someone. Jeff Hardy v Sheamus and AJ/Shinsuke will happen next week. I'm really looking forward to AJ and Nakamura. Could you imagine Daniel and Jeff Hardy? I don't think that happens, though. The final will take place at Backlash, I assume. My pick, by the way, is either AJ or Jeff. Imagine a Styles/Hardy final! Sami's situation is different than Jordan Devlin's, right? No? Well, word has Sami has an attitude problem backstage. If true, I'm sure that played a factor in the different decision. Maybe Sami will face the winner eventually. I'm trying to be positive here, people.

D Von has retired. I know there are many more like me who I could go on and on about his career but everyone knows how great he is. Trained by Johnny Rodz, D Von debuted in 1992. I was in 8th grade. He began in the northeast before finding fame with Bubba Ray in ECW. The rest is history. He became a producer in WWE in 2016. His last match was a fatal fourway for the House of Glory tag team titles December 17, 2016 beside Bubba against EYFBO( Santana and Ortiz of AEW), The Hardy's and Private Party. An 8-time ECW tag champion. Triangle ladder matches, TLC, multiple WWE tag titles, Team 3-D in TNA was just a few accolades of one of the greatest.

His accolades include 2X TNA TV title(remember that one)?, TNA World tag titles(2), NWA tag titles(1), TNA hall of fame classof 2014, WWE world tag champions(8 times), WWE tag titles(1), WCW tag titles(1), WWE Hall of Fame class of 2018,WWO International Champion(1). That's quite a career!

Everyone have a great week and enjoy wrestling!
