Wrestle Review: Big Weekend Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 11/16/2018 at 10:58 PM
Aside from the subtle nod to the late Tom Petty-"Big Weekend" is a song from his 2006 album Highway Companion-it perfectly describes this weekend in WWE. NXT Takeover only features four matches but boy are they big! I'll start there.
Aleister Black vs Johnny Gargano is going to be hot! There's no title but it doesn't matter. I think Johnny G takes this if for no other reason that he probably needs it. I know Black is the one looking for revenge after the attack. That said, what kind of feud would it be if the good guy wins right away?
Shayna Baszler and Kairi Sane in a 2 out of 3 falls match should take a chunk of time. It should be a great one as well. I'm going to pick Shayna to retain her championship by hook or by crook. And judging by the Evolution finish, it most certainly will be by nefarious means.
Tommaso Ciampa defending the NXT Championship against Velveteen Dream should be an interesting contest. It's quite a contrast in styles, isn't it? Dream is flamboyant. Flamboyant is not the word I would use to describe Ciampa. This match should be amazing and Dream will come close. That said, I expect Ciampa to retain.
Finally we have the War Games match: War Raiders, Pete Dunne and Ricochet face Undisputed Era. War Raiders, Dunne and Ricochet seemed to me at first to be a thrown together team. By necessity, of course but thrown together nonetheless. I'm picking Undisputed Era to win. This night should be fabulous. As always, Raw and Smackdown will have a lot to live up to Sunday.
The Uso Show, I mean the kickoff show, is headlined by the giant 10-man tag elimination match. There's no way to predict who wins a Survivor Series match. I'm just going to guess that New Day and Uso's survive from Team Smackdown.
AOP face The Bar and Big Show in the Raw tag champs vs Smackdown tag champs match. This will be nothing short of a car crash. I'm picking AOP to pick up the win here. It'll be close.
Buddy Murphy will defend the cruiserweight championship against Mustafa Ali but it won't be successfully. I'm not sure why but my gut says Ali.
The 5 on 5 men's elimination match is a straight-up mess. I think Miz and Joe will end up attacking their own team. Raw won't be much better. When all is said and done, though, I see Braun, Dolph and Drew as the final three of Raw. Before, during and after the final fall, though, each team will kick the crap out of each other.
Who takes Charlotte's place on Team Smackdown? It has to be someone bigger than one of the Iconics. I bet they bring someone up from NXT. Whoever they get, I think Smackdown is winning. The Raw team is just too volatile and quick to turn on each other. Not saying the Smackdown team is much better. It should be interesting chaos.
U.S. Champions Shinsuke Nakamura will defeat Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins because of Dean Ambrose. This will lead to an Intercontinental Championship street fight at TLC between Ambrose and Rolins.
Raw women's champ Ronda Rousey will face Charlotte Flair, subbing for Becky Lynch who got busted up Monday night. Ronda wins. This actually works out because we'll get Ronda vs Becky in THE main event at WrestleMania 35. Mark it down.
The main event scares me. It was originally to be AJ Styles vs Brock Lesnar. After the shocker of Daniel Bryan low blowing his way to the WWE Championship(just like AJ did against Dean Ambrose), Bryan finds himself in the ring with the Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. I don't want to see one of Lesnar's messy suplexes or F5's to Bryan. Here's what should happen: Bryan and Brock stare each other down, the bell rings and Bryan kicks Brock right between the legs. Honestly, I think that's the only shot Bryan has of not getting legitimately hurt. Also, I know there's scuttlebutt of this being Bryan's legit punishment for choosing not to work Crown Jewel. I'm not sure. It wouldn't surprise me.
I'm afraid it's going to be nasty for Bryan. Could we be ending the show with Bryan being taken off on a stretcher? I hope not but I have that fear.
Looks like the next big title match for Johnny Impact on Impact will be against Brian Cage, who exercised option C this past week. Also, Allie has gone to the dark side. The fallout of both of these decisions should be interesting to keep up with the next few weeks and months. I must say, wrestling in general is pretty good. That's probably just my opinion.
