Wrestle Review: Going Back to Hell Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 09/14/2018 at 11:28 PM
Sunday is the 2018 installment of WWE's Hell In a Cell pay-per-view. This will be, unbelievably, the 10th HIAC event. The first(2009) was headlined by DX vs Legacy(Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase, Jr) in the cell. That Cody guy has done alright, hasn't he?:) In 2011, John Cena, Alberto Del Rio and CM Punk made up the only triple threat HIAC match. Last year saw the insane match between Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon, featuring Sami Zayn turning on Shane and siding with KO.
This year's main event sees Braun Stroman challenging Roman Reigns in the cell for the Universal Championship. I'll get to that later. The kickoff show match is the Smackdown tag team championship match which sees Rusev Day challenging New Day. I'm sure some will be upset this match is on the kickoff show. My response? Something has to be on the kickoff show. I'm really hoping we crown new tag team champions Sunday. Can Rusev Day pull it out? Yes, I believe they can. Hopefully it's a Happy Rusev Day for all!
The show itself will begin with Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre defend the Raw tag team championships against former champions Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. This is appropriate, seeing as Dean was injured, therefore he and Seth never got their rematch against Sheamus and Cesaro for the tag titles. I think Seth and Dean should reclaim the championships. I have a good reason that I'll explain later.
Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella vs Miz and Maryse: Given past events, we might see interference from Cien Almas and Zelina Vega. This will lead to Miz or Maryse rolling up Daniel or Brie. I envision a 4 on 2 beatdown until somebody, I'm not saying it'll be John Cena and Nikki, come to save them.
Becky Lynch should win the Smackdown women's title from Charlotte. The fans want it to happen. It's her time. Besides, if Becky doesn't win the title, what's the point of a one-sided feud? Jeff Hardy vs Randy Orton in Hell In a Cell is going to be WILD! Remember all the crazy things Mick Foley did inside the cell? Jeff is that same type of daredevil. If he lets out a little bit of "Brother Nero", we will be in for a treat! I'm picking Jeff.
Ronda Rousey will successfully defend the Raw women's title against Alexa Bliss. I thought last month that Natalya would turn on Ronda after she won the title. That didn't happen and, to be honest, I don't see it happening for a bit. Ronda retains when Nattie makes it a fair fight, neutralizing Alicia Fox.
AJ Styles and Samoa Joe should be in the cell, in my opinion. At the very least, this match should have a no disqualification stipulation. Maybe they're saving that for the next installment. Again, it's not much of a feud unless the challenger takes a win. Joe wins the championship Sunday.
Roman Reigns will defend the Universal Championship against Braun Stroman inside Satan's structure. It is a little strange that Stephanie McMahon appointed Mick Foley special referee. Unless you factor in the chance that Braun Stroman will blow a gasket and beat the holy bejesus out of him. I definitely see that happening. In fact, WWE will do something very stupid. Roman Reigns will successfully defend his title. This leads me to my final question this week as it pertains to WWE.
Is Sunday do or die for Braun Stroman in WWE? Let's look at the trajectory of Braun in WWE.
He debuted as the monster of the Wyatt Family. When they split, he continued his dominating ways. Fans slowly started to cheer him, especially in his war with Roman Reigns. Braun finally got a Universal title match against Brock the Recluse but lost. There was another but he inexplicably lost out again. Then came the night where he entered and won the tag team title battle royal to get a shot at The Bar at WrestleMania.
The scene was set and it was perfect. Braun left us on the edge of our seat week after week wondering who his partner would be. Would he pick an enemy like Samoa Joe? Kevin Owens? The brass dangled the carrot until the match. Then, he went into the audience. He "chose" a refs kid. They won the titles but Braun had to relinquish the next night because Nicholas was in the sixth grade. Or was it fifth? I don't recall.
Since then, well, the only noteworthy feud was Kevin Owens. I was so afraid they would give that briefcase to Owens. WWE's latest screwing of Braun occurred when he announced he would be cashing in at Hell In A Cell. Do you know who else announced their cash-in ahead of time? John Cena told CM Punk one week before that he was cashing in. He lost. Remember Ken Anderson? Before getting his just due in TNA, he lost his cash-in. Not long after, he was gone.
Let's get back to Braun. There are only so many times WWE can dangle the carrot until fans become disenfranchised. They're screwing up a sure thing in Braun and it infuriates me! I really hope they surprise me Sunday. I'm not holding my breath.
There you have it. My Hell In A Cell predictions. Side note: wouldn't it be pretty cool if we got Shield vs Braun, Dolph and Drew with all the titles on the line? It'd be pretty rare. It's something I wish they'd consider. First comes Hell In A Cell that I'm looking forward to. I'll probably be watching n my laptop while watching football. Fall Sunday's are definitely busy. Enjoy Hell In A Cell!
