Wrestle Review: It Just got Interesting! Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 04/13/2018 at 11:41 PM
One phrase jumps to mind about this week in WWE. On the Vegas episode of Friends when Chandler says "if you roll sixes, we get married". To which Monica quiets the crowd and says "Shhh! This just got interesting"! This past week in WWE, things definitely got interesting! But first, WrestleMania thoughts.
I won't go through all the matches. This column would be way too long if I did. I thought it was pretty neat for referee John Cohn's son to be Braun Stroman's tag partner. That said, they had a whole host of guys backstage who didn't have a match Sunday. Oh well. Hindsight's 20/20, right?
Shinsuke and AJ had a good, a great match. Then Shinsuke hit Styles with a low blow and turned heel. They'd gone as far as they could go with a babyface Nakamura. I'm interested to see where they go from here. Obviously, they're going to have a rematch. Will it happen at the Greatest Royal Rumble? We shall see. Speaking of said Rumble.....
We were going to have a casket match between the Undertaker and Rusev. That is, of course, until Rusev popped off on twitter. Actually, he'd been very entertaining on twitter for quite awhile. Entertaining gets you fired. I'm not saying they fired Rusev but, c'mon, you know it's coming. It'll be a shame. Now we have Chris Jericho stepping into Rusev's role in the casket match. No offense to Rusev but this match just got a big upgrade!
Rousey looked awfully impressive in her debut. For those who were certain we wouldn't see her again until SummerSlam, she messed Steph up again pretty good Monday night. I anticipate consequences for both her and Angle, though.
I still think Kurt's getting fired as GM. What I absolutely didn't see coming was Paige being named new Smackdown Live GM. I love it!
I was shocked Brock retained Sunday night. They swerved us all. I thought Brock was going back to UFC. Then, just a day after 'Mania, it was made known that Brock had signed a new contract with WWE. Great, more Brock....... I'm honestly sick of this guy. That's not kayfabe. Whenever he comes on my screen, I reach for the remote to see if I can fast forward through it. However, Roman has a rematch in a steel cage at the Saudi Arabia WWE Network special. It'd make sense for him to win the title out of the country, if he's going to.
So, do we get a new Raw GM? Is Kurt going to be a player/coach like he has been? I think Steph and Hunter fire Kurt Monday. Of course I've said that before. What do I know? I thought we might get a GM switch via the draft but I don't think Paige would be sent back to Raw. What would be the point?
Who would benefit the most from the draft? Female side, Becky Lynch is the first that comes to mind. She was the first Smackdown Live women's champion and now they hardly ever use her. I don't understand. It was one thing when she was shooting her movie. Now she's back and nothing. She needs to go to Raw.
Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt as Raw tag team champions, perhaps? Speaking of future musings: what do they do with Braun next? He also needs a change of scenery, in my opinion. Send him to Smackdown. Put him in the mix for the WWE Championship. Or, switch the champions. They'd never do that. King Brock needs to be on Raw because he's THE premiere attraction. Give me a break with that dope. I could go for Roman to Smackdown. Imagine Roman gets drafted to Smackdown and wins the Universal title from Brock, taking it to Smackdown.
No Way Jose(using Adam Rose' old gimmick), AOP, Ember Moon and a returning Bobby Lashley were the Raw call-ups and surprises this week. Smackdown, on the other hand, dropped the ball on call-ups. Sure, they brought up Iconic. By the way, I think they dropped the Duo part of their name because they'll soon be a trio. Stay with me here...
Carmella finally cashed in to win the women's championship. She cashed in on a weakened Charlotte. Charlotte was weakened because Billie Kay and They say Iconic Duo is already trademarked by someone. I still think they should add 'Mella to the group. Think about it: they could use the old idea that the only way Carmella can keep the title is because of help, hence the Iconics. Makes sense, don't you think?
Of course, the draft could blow all my prognostications to kingdom come. I'm very much anticipating who goes where. What championships, if any, will get traded. Remember last draft where Seth voiced not wanting to be switched from Raw to Smackdown? He did it again just recently. What if he gets traded to Smackdown? That'd be interesting. I could go on and on about the "what ifs" of draft week. Luckily, it's not just a one-night draft. The draft will continue Tuesday on Smackdown. You know, unless they change their minds and act like us fans are supposed to forget they said it.
That's all I've got this week. I'd talk about TNA but, eh. I did think the subtle dig Kurt got in on TNA Monday night was pretty good, telling the recently "fired" Sami and Kevin "I hear TNA is hiring". I chuckled. I'm sure whoever wrote that line chuckled as well. You know what's great about being a wrestling fan? You're always wondering what happens next. And if you don't like something, it's like the weather. Stick around because it will change.
