Wrestle Review: Chamber Thoughts Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 03/02/2018 at 10:15 PM
Sunday was Elimination Chamber. I finally got to watch it Thursday afternoon. Family emergency but that's not why you came. Roman Reigns winning the men's elimination chamber match was totally predictable. Braun dominated, eliminating everyone. Then Roman eliminates one man, Braun, and wins the match. Take heart, fellow wrestling fans. After WrestleMania, Brock Lesnar will no longer be the Universal Champion. And doesn't a full-time Universal Champion override your hatred of Reigns?
Alexa retaining wasn't a huge surprise. I did dig her post-match interview where it looked like she was going to turn face. She's really good at captivating a crowd. Now she gets Asuka. You'd think she can't win but that's what most thought about the chamber match.
What happens with Braun Stroman now? What will his role be at WrestleMania? I have an idea. I had in the back of my mind, pre-Chamber, that Braun would take the Intercontinental Championship from Miz at WrestleMania. Looks like we'll possibly have a multi-man title match, possibly a ladder match. We'll see.
Scuttlebutt is that when WWE's contract with USA expires, they may find a new home at FOX. Raw on FOX and Smackdown on Fox Sports 1 would be pretty good for both channels. Remember, once upon a time, FOX aired Saturday Night's Main Event. Also, Raw on network television would be huge. Perhaps this is all speculation. We shall see.
Smackdown Live has slowly been boring me for quite some time. I don't know the problem. Oh wait, isn't Road Dogg the head writer of that show? Well, there's your answer. How can somebody who was great on the mic in his wrestling days such a dope as show head? Sidebar, I'm a little surprised the New Age Outlaws aren't in the hall of fame. Back to Smackdown.
Are they going to milk this Shane/Daniel Bryan feud for a match between the two at WrestleMania? You know Shane's going to have to have a match. Imagine, Shane AND Steph having a match at 'Mania. Oh yeah, we're totally getting Angle and Rousey vs Triple H and Stephanie. That was pretty evident given what happened during Ronda's contract signing as well as the follow-up on Raw the next night. That's my pick, anyway.
They're trying to sell us on the idea that John Cena doesn't have a clear path to WrestleMania. My money is on a returning Rey Mysterio or Undertaker. I'd be cool seeing Cena take on either of these guys. Now John has wedged himself in the WWE Championship match at FastLane. I figure Undertaker will appear in some form and distract Cena, causing him to lose. This will start the WrestleMania set-up. Of course I could be completely wrong. It's what I'd like to see happen, though. The road to WrestleMania is always a winding one. This year should be no different.
