Wrestle Review: Frustrations Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 02/10/2018 at 01:26 AM
We fans love wrestling but good Lord it can be frustrating! From a nonsense storyline to a company(usually WWE) who basically goes out of their way to excommunicate anyone who dares leave their company for another. Don't even get me started on CM Punk!
Remember when CM Punk unleashed his "pipe-bomb" promo? Yeah, it became a good catchphrase but I'm focusing more on the one he made after a John Cena match. You remember the one-he sat Indian-style on stage and proceeded to rip apart everybody from Cena to Triple H and Steph. It was great! I'm sure there are readers out there who are sick of Phil Brooks and that's totally understandable. That said, you'd mark out like crazy if "Cult Of Personality" blared over the loudspeaker in a WWE arena.
He's not the only person Vince, Paul and Steph won't bring back. Hulk Hogan....oh wait, he came back. And he'll probably come again(old Val Venis joke pops into my mind). Well, Bret Hart would never....oh wait, he's been back as well. Money talks, folks. Money heals all wounds. Oh wait, that's time. Time heals all wounds. Ah, well.
Speaking of frustration: is this Daniel Bryan/Shane McMahon thing ever going anywhere? What I would do is have Daniel get his team(Owens and Zayn) against Shane's team (maybe Nakamura and Orton) and have a match. Yes, I know they already did that. Do it again at the next SD show before WrestleMania or after, only this time, have Bryan's job on the line. He's probably legit going to leave once his contract expires anyway. He's bent on getting in the ring. Vince doesn't want to do that. We'll see who wins.
With that feud pretty much taking over Smackdown Live, there's not much else to look at. I do love the Uso's. Who doesn't? Didn't Ronda Rousey sign a WWE contract last month? Where is she? Oh yeah, it's a Brock Lesnar contract. You won't see her for anything but WrestleMania and SummerSlam this year, most likely. Speaking of Rousey, it's rumored she'll be facing Stephanie in some capacity at Mania. Well, it was going to be Rock and Ronda facing Trips and Steph. Fat chance getting Rock to do that now. Why would he?
Talk is, WWE brought Rousey in for the sole purpose of getting Stephanie McMahon over. Couple things here: Why? Why does Stephanie McMahon, Chief Brand Officer of WWE, feel the need to be put over in her family's own company? Stupid question. The owner made himself WWE Champion in 1999 as well as making his daughter women's champion once. I'm honestly surprised Steph, while calling the women's Rumble, didn't say "wait, ladies, there's one more entrant". She comes in and throws out the woman everybody thought won. It seemed like a McMahon thing to do.
Yeah, it's all frustrating. Also frustrating is the fact that these guys leave TNA, New Japan, ROH or any other promotion to go to the "big leagues" only to get the shaft. Of course, that talk about Shinsuke has died down a little now that he won the Rumble and we finally get AJ/Shin at WrestleMania, as it should be. And WWE, don't even think of having AJ lose that title to either Owens or Zayn at FastLane.
Actually, I don't see that happening. We're seeing cracks in the relationship that I think will lead to a rekindling of a hot Kevin Owens/Sami Zayn feud. Let's say Sami knocks out Kevin and then walks right into a phenomenal forearm or Styles Clash. I'm kind of hoping that's what happens anyway. This Owens/Zayn vs Styles game is just to give Styles something to do before WrestleMania.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll search some ROH on YouTube. Or maybe I'll watch some ECW on WWE Network.
