Wrestle Review: Rumble Ramble
Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 01/26/2018 at 09:26 PM

The Royal Rumble this Sunday will kick off with a U.S. title open challenge. Who will answer Bobby Roode's open challenge? I have a few ideas. Perhaps they use this opportunity to bring up, say, Drew Galloway from NXT. This will probably be the vehicle in which Dolph Ziggler returns, however. I really think that, no matter who the challenger is, Roode retains. Of course, this could be the vehicle for Bobby's former Beer Money partner At any rate, I love a good surprise and can't wait to see!

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson will face the Revival. Either way this goes, fans will say Vince is burying the other team. I'm going with Luke and Karl on this one. Balor Club just got going and it's too early for a set-back. Kalisto, Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik face TJP, Jack Gallagher and Drew Gulak in what I dub "the bathroom match". Hey, gotta go sometime, right?

Stephanie McMahon will join the commentary team for the first-ever women's Royal Rumble. All I ask, for the love of God, don't have a scenario where a woman thinks she's won, only for Stephanie to get up from the commentary position, go down to the ring, throw out the other woman and win the match. If you thought Carmella winning the first women's MITB was bad.... Unfortunately, I can totally see this happening. Vince did it once. Like father, like daughter?

Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin vs the Uso's for the SD tag titles in a 2 out of 3 falls match should be a straight-up classic! Four world class athletes I absolutely love watching perform in the ring. I'm picking the Uso's to retain.

Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan defending the Raw tag titles in a rematch with The Bar should be smash-mouth, as most matches with The Bar tend to be. I still want that champions vs champions match-Uso's vs the Bar. In order for that to happen, the Bar have to regain the championships. I think they will Sunday.

The Raw main event sees a monstrous triple threat for the Universal Championship-champion Brock Lesnar defends against Kane and Braun Stroman. If this is anything like the last time these three were in the ring together, we're looking at one crazy brawl. Somehow, some way, I see Brock retaining. That won't be the last you see of the challengers Sunday, however. More on that hunch in a bit.

In the Smackdown main event, AJ Styles defends the WWE Championship in a handicap match against Daniel Bryan's pals, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. If team Zayn-O wins, Kevin and Sami will be co-champions. That won't exactly be the first time there've been co-champions. Remember when Eddie and Chyna were Intercontinental Champions? I would like to see how this works but, in all honesty, AJ somehow has to retain here, right? He's my pick. There will be heavy involvement by Shane and DB, of course.

As for my favorites to win the Royal Rumble matches: I told you earlier what I thought would happen in the women's match. If they do actually have a wrestler win, my favorites are Becky and Charlotte. Final four: Becky, Charlotte, Carmella and Asuka.

The men's Rumble will include a swerve and some possible surprises. I can picture three guys in the ring before #30 is announced: John Cena, Roman Reigns and the Miz. Miz and Reigns call a fragile truce and go after Cena and then....BRAUN! Hot over losing the Universal title match, Braun destroys. After a 3-on-one against him for a bit, Braun swats them all away. He tosses each guy one by one until it's official-Braun Stroman vs Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania!

These predictions might not be right but it's fun to imagine. As far as returns I'd hope to see: I want to see Batista in the match. I bet we will. On a recent Ross Report podcast, he mentioned how he'd like to come back. Perhaps he makes his return Sunday.

The next firt will be a women's Elimination Chamber match. I think it'll be Raw because the poster I saw had Alexa Bliss on it. Samoa Joe was featured as well. First thing's first though, enjoy the Royal Rumble. I'm thinking it should be one of their best events in quite awhile! Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
