Wrestle Review: Survive and Advance Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 11/17/2017 at 03:35 PM
No, this isn't an article about the NCAA Tournament. Survivor Series weekend is upon us! The card Sunday doesn't quite look like it did a few weeks ago. Jinder Mahal has gone from a champion vs champion exhibition match with Universal Champ Brock Lesnar to not even being on the card after losing the title to AJ Styles. Rumor is he gets it back in a bit. For now, though, it's AJ Styles v Brock Lesnar in the main event. I like it. And I'll talk about it later.
Enzo Amore will defend the cruiserweight championship against former champion Kalisto on the kickoff show. The fact that this is the only match where a championship will be on the line is sort of a bummer, since the match either won't last long or not many people will see it. I say Enzo's goons help him retain. I was hoping we'd get a "Team Kalisto vs Team Enzo" match. Then again, WWE doesn't want to spend too long on their cruiserweights, do they?
The show officially begins with I-C Champion Miz vs U.S. Champion Baron Corbin. Their exchanges on Twitter have been fun. It's funny that wrestling feuds start on Twitter now. Oh, the age of technology! Miz wins this match because (A). WWE(and fans) love Miz, and (B). The company, I believe, is souring on Corbin. Then again, they made him U.S. Champion after it seemed he was just going to float aimlessly.
Raw's five women of captain(why) Alecia Fox, Nia, Bayley, Asuka and Sasha facing Becky, Carmella, Tamina, Naomi and a surprise superstar that I assume will be Paige. When it was clear Paige wouldn't be Raw's 5th, and Charlotte won the women's championship from Natalya, I pretty much figured Sunday would be when Paige returns. Lots of people could be mad, too. That is, if Nikki Bella is the 5th. Think about it: John Cena is returning to the the fifth man on Team Smackdown. It'd make sense if his fiancÚ Nikki was the 5th woman. If the 5th woman is Natalya, I'm going to be a little disappointed. It's hard to predict multi-person matches. I will say that I think, somehow, Carmella leaves Survivor Series as women's champion. Notice I didn't say Smackdown women's champion. That's because I predict a huge swerve/defection from Carmella to Raw. Think about it: Elsworth has been let go and who is on Raw(when he returns)? Carmella's real life boyfriend Big Cass. She cashes in and beats Bliss for the Raw championship. Team Raw wins because of new acquisition Carmella.
Raw women's champion Alexa Bliss v Smackdown women's champion Charlotte: Carmella figures in here again, obviously. She screws either Charlotte or Alexa, but who? I say she helps Charlotte win. Alexa will be out cold and it's easy pickings for Carmella to become champ. That'd be horrendous for the women's division if she won the title but, hey, worse things have happened(David Arquette as world champion).
Shield vs New Day is an interesting one. The Shield better win. Speculation is that Kofi Kingston might be the one who splits New Day. Does it happen Sunday? Doubtful. Maybe Shield wins and Kofi blames Big E and Xavier Tuesday night. Thus, the Kofi turn.
Raw tag champs Sheamus and Cesaro vs Smackdown tag champs the Uso's should be great! This one could steal the show. These are two teams that elevate their opposition. Put the two teams together and...WOW! This should be the hardest hitting match of the night. Uso's get the win, somehow. I have AJ and Brock ending in some kind of double countout, pretty unsatisfying manner. It'd be easy to pick Brock outright but you know AJ isn't going out like a punk.
The men's match of Team Smackdown-Shane, Nakamura, Roode, Orton, Cena and Shane vs Raw's Kurt Angle, Braun Stroman, Balor, Joe and Triple H is going to be phenomenal! I have no clue who wins but it's going to be fun. These matches are so unpredictable, as you'll probably hear a lot Sunday. Do you honestly think that since Sami and KO aren't on the Survivor Series SD team that they won't be there an have an impact? then you haven't been paying attention to WWE for decades.
Here's what I think should happen: Daniel Bryan is removed or quits as Smackdown GM and goes to Raw. Think about this possibility: Raw loses and Kurt gets fired. Daniel Bryan defects and becomes Raw GM. Steph and Triple H do the make good crap for a few weeks-months but finally put the screw to Bryan ala Foley: you need this job. You'll do whatever we say". Bryan gets tired of it and we eventually get Bryan vs Triple H part two. It can't be at 'Mania because that's when I figure we get Angle/Triple H. Again, I'm getting ahead of myself.
What I predict, though, would be so in step with the Triple H and Stephanie characters: Raw wins but they fire Kurt anyway. The only question: do they fire him Sunday or wait until Raw?
Before any of that, however, is War Games, the NXT version, Saturday night. Word is, it's not exactly going to be like the classic War Games match in that, But that isn't the big scoop. Word has it that, after War Games, we'll soon see Hideo Itami on the main roster. I also expect Peyton Royce and Billie Kay to be called up soon. Imagine if they are the second and third in a "Mean Girls" squad with Carmella. That's a perfect fit, if you ask me!
There you have it, some predictions of what I think will/could happen this Survivor Series weekend. Enjoy the action!
