Jay's Ways - Viewers, Nakamura, & Cena Story
Submitted by Justin Watry on 08/10/2017 at 06:10 AM

"I have been reading your stuff on 411mania and nodq.com for the longest time now and I have never felt inclined to email in. The general consensus of you not being most popular is harsh at times but also can be well-founded too. But I still read your stuff because I do enjoy your articles and find your perspective interesting most of the time.

That said, your article about your friend Megan and trip to Wrestlemnaia was the greatest thing you have ever wrote. Forget about the predictions you brag about getting right. This is your crowning piece. Maybe it is because I can relate as going to Wrestlemania is my ultimate dream and it will be happening next year. But I genuinely loved your article.

Thank you for the great stuff."

Viewership

Another week, another bump in viewership and television ratings for WWE. Raw kept the momentum going, as did Smackdown LIVE. Hey, the company keeps giving away big matches and segments on the Road to Summerslam. They better be seeing some decent results, and they are...so mission accomplished I guess. Almost makes me question if WWE is currently negotiating with NBCU (USA Network and E! Network) about their TV rights fees deal set to expire in two years.

Might be something to keep an eye out for soon. It is just a theory. Perhaps WWE is getting ahead of the curve now before it starts getting close. Thus, load up some shows and then go to the executives and point out the current ratings. Then BOOM! Another nice profitable deal for WWE to keep them on cable with a major platform.

The TV deal will have to be addressed eventually. If I were them, I would certainly not let it run out. There is definitely still time, no doubt. We will see if there is more to WWE giving away so much on free television or just them getting antsy before Summerslam.

Funny John Cena Story

Being one of the few guys who doubted the John Cena vs. Jinder Mahal WWE Summerslam 2017 rumors for the past few months, it was nice to see that officially get cleared up last Tuesday. It was funny because around early July when Cena was returning he did a cool Q&A session on Facebook. During it, he was repeatedly asked about facing Jinder at Summerslam and how everybody "KNEW" that was the plan. I loved watching Cena react to all the comments.

In video form, Cena started off with a joke about Rusev and only focusing on him. Then he turned up the sarcasm and all but dismissed the Mahal rumors. Obviously, that was taken as him wanting to keep future story lines a secret...but as the interview kept going and Mahal questions kept coming, you could just see it in his face. He knew that matchup was not happening. He knew that yet had to keep his mouth shut. By the end of the Q&A, I don't know if 'annoyed' is the right word or not, but it definitely looked like he was tired of all the Mahal mentions. There has to be a video of it somewhere online. Quite humorous how all the so called SMART fans kept bugging him about it and wouldn't just move on. Cena kept his wits but was no doubt frustrated by all the assumptions.

That was my light bulb moment in realizing the Summerslam rumor was NOT true all along. Cena was getting Baron Corbin, while Mahal was defending the WWE Championship against someone else. Besides, must I mention Cena's win/loss record at Summerslam? Yeah, not pretty...

Shinsuke Nakamura

Yes sir.

Gotta love all the fans freaking out about Nakamura supposedly failing on the blue brand. All the experts claiming Vince McMahon hates him. All the BS about him being wasted. All that garbage, of course, gets presented as FACT. Well, you know is fact? Nakamura getting a WWE Title shot at the second biggest event of the year. That is factual. Not backstage speculation. Not rumor. Not BS.

It is fact.

I would rather believe that then stories from behind the scenes that are clearly was off base.

Good luck to Nakamura at Summerslam. Very fitting he debuted WrestleMania weekend in 2016 (for NXT) and debuted (for WWE) on Smackdown LIVE one year later. Then in NXT he won the title in 2016 and now one year later can win the WWE Championship belt. All comes full circle - almost as if the company knew what they were doing all along!

Shocking, I know.

I Was Wrong Column

My next 411mania column will be another installment in my lovely "I Was Wrong" series. What am I talking about? Stay tuned to 411 over the next few days. The column will be up, and you can all read about my latest 'wrong' statement. It's a good one!

Thank You

The return of NRW is officially over 1,200 views online. Months ago, when this all began, my target was hitting one thousand. After barely a week, we have already crossed that mark. Pleased with the result obviously but mildly disappointed because many did say they would post/share it and haven't. Those with a much larger reach did not hold up their end of the bargain unfortunately. Kinda sucks they backed out but still, positive thoughts baby! I hit the 1,000 view target I set out for myself, and that is what is most important. The match is posted below. Well worth the 15 minutes!

NRW: The Match

This is it folks. After years of talk and months of planning, the return finally happened. On Saturday, June 17th, a great group of guys and gals gathered for a one time, one night return to the squared circle. There is a nice article detailing the backstory of these events here (https://noahwatry.tv/2017/07/09/the-lessons-of-backyard-wrestling-wwe-superstar-hopes-and-dreams-of-flying/) to set the stage. Please read that and then when ready, enjoy the 15 minute spectacle! Any and all feedback is welcome. We all put a ton of time, effort, and money into making this reunion possible, so it is with pleasure I present to you No Rulez Wrestling...

Cheap Plugs

I went to Orlando, Florida for my first ever WrestleMania earlier in the year. I participated in the return of NRW a few weeks ago. Next up for my epic 2017:
