Jay's Ways - WWE Financials, Cena/Nakamura, MORE Submitted by Justin Watry on 07/27/2017 at 05:17 AM
"I have been reading your stuff on 411mania and nodq.com for the longest time now and I have never felt inclined to email in. The general consensus of you not being most popular is harsh at times but also can be well-founded too. But I still read your stuff because I do enjoy your articles and find your perspective interesting most of the time.

That said, your article about your friend Megan and trip to Wrestlemnaia was the greatest thing you have ever wrote. Forget about the predictions you brag about getting right. This is your crowning piece. Maybe it is because I can relate as going to Wrestlemania is my ultimate dream and it will be happening next year. But I genuinely loved your article.
Thank you for the great stuff."

WWE Battleground 2017 Review
Head on over to 411mania.com for my full WWE Battleground 2017 review. Every match discussed. Interesting outcomes all across the board. Worst pay-per-view of the year? Maybe. Read 411 for my thoughts.
Okay folks, this is going to be an interesting Thursday and Friday. The latest quarterly conference call is just hours away, and chatter is that it may not be pretty. A few clues line up with either costs being cut or profits being down.
- Top executives in WWE were selling off some of their stock earlier in the week, and that usually spells disaster for upcoming business pitfalls!
- Talking Smackdown was just canceled out of the blue (ha!), as was Unfiltered on the WWE Network.
- There is no more pyro on television.
- Then there is the usual speculation of 205 Live being revamped.
All a coincidence or all a sign of impending doom?
I would say we are in store for some BAD financial news today, but maybe I am just being pessimistic? Releases and/or firings is also a worst case scenario, so let's not even go there. Hopefully, all of this worry is washed away when WWE announces their latest money figures.
Some wrestling fans go bonkers over fantasy booking; some go nuts for the financial aspects of the business. Stay tuned...
I mentioned this before, but it is great to see WWE continuing their trend of advertising RAW and Smackdown LIVE matches a full week out. Even if it is just a small segment or announcement, that adds added buzz and anticipation. We have something to talk about for seven days and thus, you look forward to the show more. It really is very simple. Baffles my mind why WWE went so long just going from show to show without any cliffhangers or bouts hyped up. In the WWE Network Era, the company can be very flexible with its' product. Glad to see some tweaks and risks being taken. Ratings have jumped up a bit, so there are at least some results showing.
John Cena VS Shinsuke Nakamura
Yes! This is what I am talking about with John Cena.
Sorry, but I have no desire to see him return to battle Rusev. Zero reason for him to waste a month on that, much less in a pointless Flag Match. Cena is only going to be around for short stretches of time. You best believe he should be out there mixing it up with Nakamura, Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe, and others.
Give us these dream matches now! Who knows when Cena will be hanging up his boots? Facing off against The Miz or James Ellsworthless earlier in 2017? Ugh. Now how you use a part-time legend like the 16-time WWE World Champion.
We can argue all day long about getting Cena vs. Nakamura for the first time ever on free TV, but that goes back to my original point. How long is he sticking around for? If it is just another month until he heads to Raw for awhile, then yeah, you pull the trigger now while both are healthy and available. If this is part of a bigger plan that has to play out long-term, okay, we will see where it goes. No reason to stall and wait around forever with Cena. He is there. Nakamura is there. The two are ready, so let's do it!
Personally, I would have absolutely placed that bout on pay-per-view and made it a huge spectacle as THE main event spotlight. However, I do not work for WWE nor do I know Cena's travel schedule, Nakamura's business, or what behind the scenes obstacles are in the way. All things us fans do not know about. What I DO know is Cena taking on Nakamura is a big time match, and I am pumped to see what the two can do once the bell rings.
Chris Jericho Returns
Hey, another big Smackdown LIVE moment! It was like they knew Battleground stunk up the joint and had to rebound. Good for them for recognizing a problem and attempting to correct it. No joke there either. If you stumble and fall, you get back up and keep at it. The blue brand absolutely took a dump on Sunday night. With their loaded roster and talent on hand, that was disappointing to say the least. Best best is to shrug it off and move forward your best effort. That is what happened on Tuesday, just two days later. I give them props for that.
In that was the return of Chris Jericho. My guess is that was planned for awhile now but still. The timing fit perfectly. I had actually speculated on his impending return last week when discussing WWE Battleground. Felt like he was nearby. Since the previous stipulation of his last run, he is now on Smackdown. More of a boost to the program. Yeah, Jericho lost in the main event, but that is kind of his role at this point. Always happy to have him back in the fold. I'm intrigued to find out if this was just a one night thing or who his next feud will be with come Summerslam.
United States Championship
I throw my hands up. Honestly have no clue what went down on Sunday night between AJ Styles and Kevin Owens, much less three weeks ago at Madison Square Garden. Apparently, that big finish was all for a DVD ending? Um, okay. WWE produces the DVD and sets its' own timeline. They can pick and choose what they went. Seems weird to basically "make" a moment for a DVD when there is plenty of phenomenal AJ Styles material out there for a conclusion to the documentary.
Then came Battleground. Rumors suggest it was a funky ending with either the outcome being changed on the fly or something similar, which led to Owens regaining the title. I admit the ending was VERY flat and looked messed up (only match wrong by the oddsmakers too). I admit that...it just seems strange that WWE would go to these lengths over confusion of who holds the United States Title. Is it truly THAT important?
Finally, the icing on the cake: AJ Styles gets back the title by being a little sneaky weasel and pinning Jericho in a triple threat match - basically stealing the victory from Owens. Really, can somebody tell me what the heck is going on? I guess the belt is now on Styles for good, which was the plan last month. The ends justify the means perhaps? Whatever, enough title changes. Let Styles ride high with the gold for a couple of months, bring back the open challenge, have great matches, build to the Nakamura showdown, and allow Smackdown LIVE to have its star shine again.
That is all I ask. No more ridiculous nonsense and fluky junk surrounding finishes. No need for it.
Good luck to the NXT crew in Milwaukee on Thursday night and Green Bay on Friday. Wish I could make it to these shows but no can do. What stings even more is that Shawn Michaels will be on the road with the crew this weekend. That really sucks. Rest assured, if I see something on Twitter about the guys/gals hanging out near my place, I will be sure to show them around town. Have a blast folks!
The return of NRW is officially over 1,000 views online. Months ago, when this all began, my target was hitting one thousand. After barely a week, we have already crossed that mark. Pleased with the result obviously but mildly disappointed because many did say they would post/share it and haven't. Those with a much larger reach did not hold up their end of the bargain unfortunately. Kinda sucks they backed out but still, positive thoughts baby! I hit the 1,000 view target I set out for myself, and that is what is most important. The match is posted below. Well worth the 15 minutes!
NRW: The Match
This is it folks. After years of talk and months of planning, the return finally happened. On Saturday, June 17th, a great group of guys and gals gathered for a one time, one night return to the squared circle. There is a nice article detailing the backstory of these events here (https://noahwatry.tv/2017/07/09/the-lessons-of-backyard-wrestling-wwe-superstar-hopes-and-dreams-of-flying/) to set the stage. Please read that and then when ready, enjoy the 15 minute spectacle! Any and all feedback is welcome. We all put a ton of time, effort, and money into making this reunion possible, so it is with pleasure I present to you No Rulez Wrestling...
I went to Orlando, Florida for my first ever WrestleMania earlier in the year. I participated in the return of NRW a few weeks ago. Next up for my epic 2017:
