Rift's WWE RAW commentary for 4/24/17
Submitted by Aaron Rift on 04/24/2017 at 01:31 PM

- RAW kicked out with a Highlight Reel segment with Chris Jericho. Jericho said this will be the last highlight reel on RAW since he is going to beat Kevin Owens for the U.S. Title and head to Smackdown Live. The Miz came out and ranted on Jericho. The crowd chanted "you suck!" and Miz said he can't suck because he's not from Kansas City. Miz said the highlight reel has been canceled and replaced with Miz TV. Miz had the crew take apart Jericho's set. Ambrose came out and said the people don't want to see another episode of Miz TV. Ambrose had the crew replace Miz's set with the Ambrose Asylum set minus Mitch the potted planet. Ambrose did reference Jericho hitting Ambrose with Mitch. Jericho said Ambrose owes him $15,000 dollars. Ambrose got Jericho a new jacket as a gift. Miz complained and Ambrose laid out Miz with the Dirty Deeds. Jericho put Maryse on the list for being married to The Miz. It was a well-performed opening segment by Miz in particular and he got good heat. I enjoyed the exchange between Jericho and Miz but I'm still not a huge fan of Ambrose and Miz continuing to feud. The whole segment also felt over-choreographed.

- Sheamus vs. Matt Hardy. Hardy won with a twist of fate. After the match, the teams argued but then shook hands. I was surprised to see Hardy win since I figured the challengers would pick up some momentum heading into the PPV. Hardy tried to get fans to chant "delete!" but the chants were pretty weak.

- Backstage, Kurt Angle made Ambrose/Jericho vs. Miz and a partner for later.

- Neville and TJ Perkins vs. Austin Aries and Jack Gallagher. Aries scored the victory over Perkins. This was a logical finish with Aries building momentum for Sunday and Neville remaining strong by not taking the fall.

- Braun Strowman vs. Kalisto in a dumpster match. Before the match, Strowman cut a promo and called the fans trash. Backstage, Angle asked Kalisto if Kalisto wanted to back out but Kalisto refused. Kalisto came out to new entrance music. Kalisto came close to getting Strowman in the dumpster at one point. Strowman dominated but then Kalisto dropkicked Strowman off the apron with Strowman landing feet-first in the dumpster. Kalisto won the match but got destroyed by Strowman after the match. There was a dueling "We want Roman/Roman sucks!" chant. Strowman put Kalisto in the dumpster and took the dumpster up the ramp. Strowman tied the dumpster lids so Kalisto couldn't escape. Strowman then pushed the dumpster off the stage. This was a re-creation of the 1998 angle where the New Age Outlaws pushed the dumpster off the stage containing Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie. This segment lacked the tall stage of the original as well as JR's memorable commentary.

- A Roman Reigns video package was shown with several shots of positive fan signs.

- Bray Wyatt cut a backstage promo on Randy Orton with scary music to hype up the House of Horrors match.

- Dana Brooke defeated Alicia Fox in a quick match. Emma gave Dana a hug and left the ring.

- Backstage, Samoa Joe and The Club cut a promo on Seth Rollins and Enzo/Cass. Anderson called Enzo a butt-nugget.

- At ringside, Enzo and Cass were jumped by Samoa Joe and The Club. Seth Rollins ran down and went after Joe. Order was restored as Cass and Rollins checked on Enzo. Kurt Angle brought out Finn Balor as the new partner to replace Enzo which Graves called a "huge upgrade." Rollins picked up the win for his team. Rollins won with the rainmaker knee so that appears to be his new finisher. This was another logical finish with Rollins looking strong and Joe not taking the fall heading into the PPV.

- Alexa Bliss came out and cut a promo on Bayley. The crowd chanted "What" and Alexa said to say what if she's the best, which the crowd did. Bayley came out and said Alexa is the kind of person that talks behind people's faces. Alexa made fun of Payback being in Bayley's hometown. Alexa asked if Bayley ever kissed a boy but said Bayley didn't have to answer that. Sasha came out and said Bayley will shut Alexa up. Sasha challenged Alexa to a match but Alexa turned it down. Sasha punched Alexa and the match was on. Alexa did well on the mic but Bayley was a bit rough. The "never kissed a boy" line makes it even more obvious that WWE is trying to re-create Daniel Bryan circa 2010. The problem is that Bryan wasn't the champion at that time.

- Alexa Bliss vs. Sasha Banks. Bliss purposely got counted out. Bayley tried to take Bliss back to the ring but Bliss escaped. When Bayley turned her back, Bliss attacked Bayley and ran to the back. This was a weird segment.

- Backstage, Jericho took Ambrose off the list but then re-added Ambrose when Ambrose left the room.

- Backstage, The Miz tried to recruit Heath Slater and Curtis Axel as a tag team partner. Rhyno offered crackers but Maryse throw the crackers back in his face. Miz was handed a letter about his partner.

- Curt Hawkins issued an open challenge. Apollo Crews accepted the challenge. Crews won with a sit-down powerbomb. Titus O'Neil raised Crews' hand after the match and they took a selfie together. The bad news for Crews is that there was no reaction at all when his music hit.

- A video package was shown of the Reigns vs. Strowman feud. The death of Rosey was acknowledged by he was only referred to as "Roman's brother."

- Kurt Angle had a talk with Miz backstage. The Drifter drifted by but Miz said Drifter was not his partner.

- The Miz introduced his tag team partner against Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose but nobody came out. Kurt Angle came out and said the match is starting with or without Miz's partner. The match went on as a handicapped match. Miz tried to leave and the fight ended up on the stage. The lights went out and Wyatt appeared. Wyatt took out Ambrose with sister Abigail. Wyatt laid out Jericho and then took out Miz as well. This was another weird segment with two matches (Jericho vs. Owens and Orton vs. Wyatt) being built up without any interaction between the participants.
