Why WWE is booking Drew McIntyre vs. Bill Goldberg Submitted by Aaron T-Bar Rift on 01/05/2021 at 08:42 AM
It appears that WWE booked Bill Goldberg vs. Drew McIntyre for the Royal Rumble PPV because the company didn't feel anybody else was ready to challenge McIntyre. While Goldberg's contract reportedly calls for him to wrestle twice a year, it's unknown if WWE still has plans to have him compete against Roman Reigns.
There is no word regarding Braun Strowman's recovery from injury as he was initially rumored to be McIntyre's opponent for the PPV.
Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted the following about the situation:
"So this was decided on Saturday. So if you're wondering why Goldberg did all this buildup with Roman Reigns if he's going to wrestle Drew McIntyre and it's like, that is your answer. It wasn't a swerve. It wasn't to throw people off. It was because they had nobody ready for anything." (quote courtesy of Sportskeeda.com)
