WrestleMania XX was the twentieth WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view event from World Wrestling Entertainment, which took place on Sunday, March 14, 2004 in New York City at the world-famous Madison Square Garden. The tagline for WrestleMania XX was Where It All Begins...Again.

In celebration of the 20th incarnation of the event, WWE returned to the city and arena where the first WrestleMania took place.

The buildup to WrestleMania XX began almost immediately following the previous year's WrestleMania XIX. Billed as The Road to WrestleMania XX, advertising for the 20th WrestleMania ran often during WWE shows and PPV events. The WrestleMania XX logo appeared on all WWE licensed shirts, DVDs, and pay-per-view posters with the tagline The Celebration You Can't Miss! appearing underneath the logo. A website was set up in September 2003 counting down the days until WrestleMania XX. The theme song to this event was "Step Up" by Drowning Pool while the song for the recap video was "Touche" by Godsmack.

WrestleMania XX was a joint-promotion PPV event, featuring wrestlers from both the RAW and SmackDown! brands. In fact, this was the first WrestleMania to feature cross-promotional matches, in which wrestlers from both brands fought each other. The RAW commentators for the event were Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler. The SmackDown! commentators were Michael Cole and Tazz.

* This was the third time Madison Square Garden hosted the event (1 & X were the others).
* To date, this is the only 5-Hour Wrestlemania broadcast.
* This was the first Wrestlemania to charge $49.95

* This was the first WrestleMania to have Triple Threat Match for a World Championship.
* Eddie Guerrero's win marked just the seventh time a World Champion successfully defended his championship at WrestleMania, the first two being Hulk Hogan, followed by Yokozuna (though he would lose it in a later match that night), Diesel and twice by Triple H.
* The handicap match was The Rock's last WrestleMania appearance and last match to date.
* Their underwhelming match was Goldberg's last match to date and Brock Lesnar's last match to date in the WWE.
* The Undertaker's undefeated WrestleMania streak became 12-0 after pinning Kane in their second WrestleMania encounter (first being XIV). Kane lost both times. Incidentally, the first time it took 3 "Tombstone Piledrivers" while this time it only took one to finish off Kane.
* Randy Orton, John Cena, Batista, Rene Dupree, Rob Conway, Mark Jindrak, Garrison Cade, Goldberg, Ultimo Dragon, Shannon Moore, Nunzio, Jamie Noble, Billy Kidman and Akio all made their in-ring WrestleMania debuts.
* This was the first WrestleMania to feature RAW vs. SmackDown! matches since being split into two brands.
* This WrestleMania has the most title defenses, with 7 (United States, Women's, Cruiserweight, WWE Tag Team, World Tag Team, WWE and World Heavyweight titles). The Intercontinental Title was the only title not defended on this WrestleMania since Intercontinental Champion Randy Orton competed in the handicap match.
* This was the first time that The Tag Team Titles from both brands are defended in one night and at a Wrestlemania and also at a fatal four way tag team match.
* For the first time ever, Mick Foley and The Rock teamed up at WrestleMania.
* This was Kane's first WrestleMania without his mask
* The main event was given the Match of the Year 2004 award by Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
* This is the first WrestleMania to have a main event end by submission.
* This was the first time Shawn Michaels was in the main event since Wrestlemania 14 against Steve Austin
* The only wrestler at WM XX that competed at WrestleMania X, also held in Madison Square Garden, was Shawn Michaels, who lost the WWE Intercontinental Championship to Razor Ramon in a ladder match at WrestleMania X.
