  NoDQ.com > Columns > Neville = Heel Magic
Posted by Ryan Latino on 02/26/2017 at 09:00 AM

Growing up in the UK and seeing UK wrestling grow with such momentum has been brilliant to watch. Going to local shows and seeing the talent which has improved so much it is no wonder talent is being snapped up and going to America.
Over the years one name has been the forefront of the UK wrestling scene. From column write ups to Internet clips Neville has stood out to be a breakout star.
His physique makes up for his height which doesn't stop or limit him. His style is quick, stiff, impactful and his lightning strikes compliment his aerial ability and strong mat work. As most would say he has the whole package and his rise in NXT was no surprise as he became the longest running NXT champion in history having great feuds with Bo Dallas and Sami Zayn most notably.
His call up to the main roster came at a great time and then.......something didn't work. Something just didn't fit. The man gravity forgot with the superhero gimmick and cartoon vignettes. It should have appealed to a young audience and catapulted him to a new level and so many opportunities. He even won breakout star of the year and a Summerslam showdown with Stardust as he teamed with Stephen Amel (Green Arrow) to create that superhero gimmick showdown. Yet something still wasn't right. He had no promo time and was hardly on RAW or TV tapings. A guy with so much talent down the pecking order who watched as other NXT stars soared past him grabbing the spotlight and the main event spots. If it couldn't get any worse a freak injury on RAW derailed any momentum and his spot in the Intercontinental ladder match at Wrestlemania.

Fast forward to the present and the Cruiserweight division is in full flow with a babyface champion and out comes Neville after six months out BANG!!!! The cartoon gimmick is gone and the King of the Cruiserweights was born. What a transformation hallelujah! With the serious rock theme entrance and his slow paced walk down the ramp with a look of someone with a real chip on their shoulder. His serious attitude compliments his growing physique. Gone is the red arrow and he now works a slow methodical pace inflicting pain on his opponents with pleasure. His promo work has come on leaps and bounds as his Newcastle accent is disguised through the slow delivery. When he talks you listen and the concept of King of the Cruiserweights is simple yet affective. Hats off to creative but Neville should get the biggest applause as he has taken to this heel character with such ease and it's great to watch and brings a main event feel to the Cruiserweight division.
I am personally looking forward to Neville versus Austin Aries down the road which has a match of the year feel about it!

It has taken a while but finally Neville is in a great place to shine and I personally can't wait to see the rise of the King and seeing him live in May!
Long live the King.
