I sighed a little when John Cena was pinned last Sunday. It had nothing to do with Bray Wyatt but rather that Cena’s 16th reign only lasted 14 days. Was this Vince’s way of low-balling him for doing other things or did he feel it was best to give him #16 at the biggest Royal Rumble in 20 years? I tell you, it will make for a compelling angle the next time Cena fights for the title on PPV. Will he “break” Flair’s record?

Orton has refused to face his leader for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 33. That could be taken to mean he’s forfeiting his shot. In 1999, Vince McMahon did the same only to learn that the runner-up – Stone Cold Steve Austin – would get the title match. Roman Reigns was the last man eliminated. Just sayin’.

Ok, on to the real business at hand.

I’m pleased that the break-up Jeri-KO happened. They were right to pull the trigger since Owens has been plagued ever since winning the Universal title. Why? There’s a few reasons.

First, Owens never beat the champion in order to win it. Second, he was lucky that Triple H wanted some payback on Roman Reigns and to beat up Seth Rollins. Third, his friendship with Chris Jericho is a double-edged sword. Fourth, the Universal was met with unnecessary criticism right from the get-go.

Let’s elaborate on the third one. Owens hit the ground running on his main roster debut. He lost his feud with John Cena but not once did he look like a fool in any of their three matches. His act with Y2J was entertaining but unbecoming of KO. He’s supposed to be the “prizefighter”, the guy that hurts people bad by powerbombing them on the apron. The pop-up powerbomb is one of the best finishers around.

Jericho experienced quite the resurgence last year. He’s not the only one.

Having his wife in his corner has done wonders for the Miz as he experienced his best year in WWE. He did for the Intercontinental title what Cena did for the US title. Maryse has helped her husband but not enough that he looks like a weakling. That’s where Jeri-KO faltered.

Jericho’s meddling in Owens’ affairs made him look weak. Plain and simple.

There’s also the matter of the red belt.

They had two of your darlings – Finn Balor and Rollins – fighting for a new world title in one of the holy trinity cities of passionate crowds. What were people talking about more than the match itself? The belt design.

Ok, so it’s basically the WWE title with a red strap, black streak, and different wording. That’s no excuse to shit all over it.

Balor would’ve given the belt legitimacy had he not been injured. Then there’s Y2J acting like the belt was some toy two best friends would just share. What are they, Lay-Cool?

Not sure if the US title will be contested when KO vs. Y2J happens in Orlando but it will likely be the case.

I’ll go into detail on Lesnar vs. Goldberg later.

Don’t mess with the X.
