"I honestly think that you are so good (different) at how you approach columns. I know some people take compliments lightly and such, but honestly, you should be a very proud man. Boatloads of people including me, read your columns ALL THE TIME. Me personally, I wake up every morning, and before I go to school, I read your column (I'm 16). Also, your consistency with your columns is amazing, just from reading them so much, I almost feel like I know your thought process (not that I do). So with all of that out of the way, thank you."

Just a bunch of random thoughts today...

411mania Plug

My FULL WWE Royal Rumble 2017 review column is up at 411mania. It was posted a few days ago. I always urge everybody to check the column section on 411 regularly because you never know when my stuff will be there. Needless to say, I had a ton to say about the event.

If you follow me on Twitter, you can probably skip this section. I have now seen the movie Split in theaters three times. I think it gets better each time I see it. First time, it was good. Second time, it was great. Now? I don't know - just something about M. Night movies...they get me nearly every time. There have been some duds in there, but nobody in life bats 1,000%. Nobody gets a hit in every game; that's not how the world works. I am happy for their box office success so far and look forward to whatever his next title is. Split was as good, if not better than many of his past films. Yes, a lot of his reputation is built on the "TWIST!" ending, but don't sell this entire two hour movie short. Very entertaining and will keep you guessing/intrigued until the final scene.

Oh, and yeah - there is most definitely a classic M. Night curveball thrown at you in the last 30 seconds! No spoilers though.

Bray Wyatt

For everybody upset over the Rumble winner being Randy Orton, turn that frown upside down. If this is what it takes to finally get the WWE Championship on Bray Wyatt, then you bet your lucky stars it will be worth it. If reports are to be trusted, the endgame here centers around Wyatt walking out of Elimination Chamber as the new champ to battle Orton at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. I mean, isn't that what fans have been whining about for the past three years? To have Wyatt in a prime spot? Important role at the biggest event of the year? With the top prize? Seriously. It seems that is the plan. Be happy.

Universal Title

On the flip side, what the heck is going on with the Universal Title? Is Kevin Owens going to keep the belt and face Chris Jericho at WM33? He is the United States Champion, so how would that work? Is Sami Zayn going to take that from Y2J during the next few weeks? Is Finn Balor going to return and take back his Universal Title? Oh, and then there is little thing called Fastlane one month from Sunday. Rumor is Bill Goldberg may get the title shot there. Does that mean HE is walking into Mania with the championship? Or would it be better to have Brock Lesnar cost Goldberg that bout at Fastlane? That would give him a loss though, and I don't think that is wise this close to Mania. I don't know. Seems like a mess to me. WWE has February and March to get it sorted.

Regardless of the real attendance numbers and stadium capacity, the AlamoDome looked super cool last week. From a fan's view, it was awesome to see so many people there for a non-WM show. For a company looking at the bottom line, it certainly made more money than your regular 20,000 seat building, so they will be happy. Clearly. Standard 20,000 or around 40-50,000 fans? Hmm, I wonder...

NFL Prediction

Okay, my Colts over Packers prediction from four months ago turned out to be a bust. Not even close to the Super Bowl, but hey, Green Bay got close...and Indy stunk it up again. Wrong for me. Instead, we have the dominant New England Patriots vs. the good old reliable Atlanta Falcons. Both have been great in the post-season and earned those top spots in the AFC and NFC. No debate about them deserving to be in the big game. Now, what is my prediction you ask? I am going to be cheap here: Falcons are where I am placing my money, but I believe the Patriots will win another Super Bowl. Neither result would surprise, and I honestly have no rooting interest in either, so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the spectacle. Over 100 million viewers will be watching. Should be fun.

Goldberg Business

Last Fall, AFTER Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg was announced for Survivor Series, WWE Network projections for the quarter stayed the same as the previous three months. In other words, the company did not believe the mega-match would bump subscriptions much, if at all. A few weeks later, WWE changed that - moving the estimate up a little. Indicating the Brock/Goldberg match doing better than expected. We will find out the fourth quarter financial results of 2016 in the coming days, but it explains why WWE stayed in the Goldberg business and didn't immediately cut him loose after November.

Same thing during the Royal Rumble Kickoff show. Michale Cole mentioned a backup and delays in WWE Network orders coming in late. Not that it was ALL because of Bill Goldberg, but it is hard not to give him credit. His Raw staredown with Brock Lesnar AND The Undertaker was huge and a perfect cliffhanger. I have zero doubts people caught wind of that and signed up for the Rumble on Sunday. That is why I believe WWE is fully invested in Goldberg now (his entrance on Sunday got the loudest reaction at my place) and may have no issues giving him a title run before Mania and yes, even giving him the closing slot of the show with Brock in Orlando. We'll see, but the Goldberg/WWE deal has been massive the past couple of months.

The Miz

I want to end with this. Rumor has it The Miz will be in a high profile match at WrestleMania 33. I won't reveal the specific story line, but it was leaked online a few weeks ago. I paid no attention to it because it didn't feel right, much less make any sense at all. Well, now it is beginning to come together. Some are taking issue with the bout (if it happens) because they feel his opponent is being dragged DOWN the card. My response? Props to The Miz. He deserves a high profile spot at Mania again. It's not his opponent being dragged down; it is The Miz being moved UP! He has earned this after a stellar 2016. The pairing with Maryse, IC Title reigns, and epic Daniel Bryan verbal beatdown is more than enough to warrant a nice Mania payday. Good for him.
