The last three Royal Rumbles have been painted in the worst light.

In 2014, just about everyone had the “nobody but Daniel Bryan” attitude. And who paid the price for that? Batista. The next year it was Roman Reigns. Neither of them deserved anywhere near the amount of hate they got.

Oh, but 2016? If that ‘Mania season was bad we can blame Triple H. Not only did he book himself as the avenging angel but Reigns’ booking suffered yet again.

So, what will everyone bitch about this year? Maybe you should, I don’t know, just enjoy it.

Ok, enough complaining about years past.

WWE Championship
John Cena vs. AJ Styles (C)

Don’t you think we’ve waited for #16 long enough? I mean, Cena tying Ric Flair is a landmark moment. Maybe it should be saved for ‘Mania 33 but it would also make this Royal Rumble worth talking about.

It might seem that they’re low-balling AJ by booking him to lose it but he’s pinned JC three times on PPV last year. They can’t take those away. He’ll be fine if he loses.

Winner: John Cena

Universal Championship
No Disqualification
Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens (C)

It’s highly doubtful that a shark cage is gonna stop Chris Jericho but getting involved, and it could very well provide the impetus for a rivalry between Y2J and KO.

Whatever you may think about Roman, taking the red belt off of Owens is the best move. Hate to say it, his title reign was marred from the start. He only won because of Triple H – he just ruins shit – and Jericho is just more entertaining so that he overshadows him.

It’s very unclear where Reigns goes no matter if he leaves the Alamodome with the gold. He really is the next John Cena in a lot of ways.

Winner: Roman Reigns

Raw Women’s Championship
Bayley vs. Charlotte (C)

Much like Roman Reigns was supposed to be the “1 who beats the 1 in 23-1”, they’ve been positioning the Hugger as the one who hands Charlotte her first singles loss on PPV. They’ve been saving that for Orlando. Good move, plus it helps that Vince is very high on Bayley.

She talked about having Izzy – her #1 fan in NXT – as part of her entrance at ‘Mania 33. Could happen.

Winner: Charlotte

The Royal Rumble match

There’s a big YAY feeling heading into this Rumble. We could get surprise entrants such as Kurt Angle, Shinsuke Nakamura, Samoa Joe, and Finn Balor. I would love to see Shawn Michaels if not for it negating how emotional his goodbye was seven years ago. I would know, I was there.

For the first time in five years, there’s a big layer of unpredictability.

These are the top contenders: Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho, Goldberg, The Undertaker, and Braun Strowman. Now I’m hearing that Randy Orton is the new favorite, possibly for a ‘Mania feud with Bray Wyatt who will take the WWE title at Elimination Chamber. GAH!

I just don’t know. I kinda want it to be Goldberg but if the Undertaker wins, we may get that certain dream match we’ve been waiting for. I’m drawing a name out of a hat this time.

Winner: Goldberg
2nd possible winner: Brock Lesnar

Well, all we have to do now is wait and see.

Don’t mess with the X.
