NoDQ.com > Columns > British Bulldogs for Hall of Fame
Posted by Ryan Latino on 01/22/2017 at 04:38 PM

With Kurt Angle being inducted in the Hall of Fame and rightly so it got me thinking who would I like to see inducted into the Hall of Fame and what does it take to be there? Is it how many titles you have won or how many main events you have been in? Or was it how long a career you had in the business? For me a big part is going to another country and getting over and being able to adapt to that country's style of wrestling.
When you think of British wrestling what is your first thought? Which wrestler do you think of? Is it William Regal, Sheamus, Big Daddy or Fit Finley? When I think of British wrestling my first thought is Dynamite Kid and Davey boy Smith the British Bulldogs.

From the mid eighties the Bulldogs were one of the best tag teams in the world. From Stampede Wrestling where they had huge success as a team and as single competitors especially Dynamite who had some classic matches with Bret Hart to then going to Japan and getting over in a tough country. The Bulldogs had a blend of speed, strength and technically were very good as a team. They were so hot the WWE signed them up and went straight to the top. Well documented this is where it all started to unravel as steroids, drugs and injuries took there toll especially Dynamite who had such a messed up back they couldn't defend the titles and lost them in record time to cover the injury and let Dynamite recover.
While Dynamite's career started to unravel Davey boy Smith took off with the perfect physique and cheeky chappy personality the world was at his feet. A Battle Royal win at the Royal Albert Hall in London was a notable high until Summerslam 1992 where infront of 90,000 people Davey boy Smith came home to win the Intercontinental title from Bret Hart in an instant classic that had everyone out of their seats. The moment of his career as not long after he left for WCW then came back to WWE to be apart of one of the greatest factions in WWE history the Hart Foundation where he had more title success as a singles competitor aswell as a tag team.

Everybody has their demons we all do and Davey boy Smith was no different. He made numerous comebacks over the years most notably taking on the Rock for the WWE title but never quite winning the big one. A guy who maybe didn't live up to his full potential however a guy who sold out Wembley held numerous titles and had a twenty plus year career in the business inspiring a generation and going abroad making British Wrestling relevant again. Someone who is still remembered fondly in the UK and who deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. The ideal scenario would be to induct him in the UK if Wrestlemania came to the UK..... Another year goes by and still waiting!!!!
For all their accomplishments the British Bulldogs should go into the Hall of Fame.
