  NoDQ.com > Columns > Undertaker's next Wrestlemania opponent?
Posted by Ryan Latino on 01/15/2017 at 10:51 AM

The big question! This year it could be anybody. In past years everyone has had an idea of who it was going to be with revealing promos and clues but this year it has been difficult and I still don't even know if WWE have made up their minds yet! Do you go for a legend or in ring veteran where the hype of the match will overshadow the quality presented in the ring?
Sting is a name that stands out and he has made it clear that it is the dream match he wants to sign off his career as he doesn't want to be remembered for his last match with Seth Rollins and be carried off not being able to finish the match. From a marketing point of view it would make sense. A match 25 years in the making with Sting a surprise entrant at the Rumble who eliminated Taker to allow them to go to Wrestlemania. They wouldn't have to go crazy with high risk spots as fans would be too involved in the hysteria of the match. It also wouldn't hurt Stings credibility if he were to loose and walk off into the sunset having just competed in his dream match.

Another choice would be John Cena that match would sell anywhere in the world and come full circle from Cena's debut where backstage Taker comes up to him and asks him his name and says "good job"
Another match where little risk would be involved and where if Cena were to loose it wouldn't hurt his credibility and also a way to allow him to go off and commit to his other projects and come back to seek revenge at another point in time. If they were to square off at Wrestlemania it shouldn't be for the title as this match doesn't need it. Styles deserves to go to Wrestlemania as champion after the year he has had. So Cena is another viable option and it wouldn't take much to set up either.
Now the question is do you put Taker with someone current on the roster who needs to get to another level and would you allow Taker to loose to that superstar or beat them? Look at what happened to Wyatt a couple of years ago where the match got lost mid card yet had the potential to be amazing with the visuals and creative story of the Deadman vs the Leader of World's. Wyatt loosing gave him no momentum which could easily have been avoided even in defeat.
So who else is there Braun Strauman? No way he isn't ready.
Roman Reigns?! That would certainly create a buzz and fans would vocally voice their opinions. That match would sell tickets and really test Reigns. If Reigns were to turn heel it would bring a new dynamic to the match and if he lost it wouldn't hurt his position in the company as older fans would still boo the heck out of him. However if he won can you imagine the controversy and reaction of fans?! The boos would be deafening and create something that they could really work on to get Reigns even more heat! Imagine it!

The only other person I feel could be Takers opponent is Aj Styles. After the year he has had and the momentum gained if anybody deserves that spot it should be Aj Styles. He can adapt and wrestle anybody. A match everyone would like to see and for the title aswell makes sense. The programme they could have after Wrestlemania could be off the charts.

So who knows! There are four potential opponents and you can make a case for each of them aswell as so many others. Hopefully the Rumble will answer alot of questions as we count down the road to Wrestlemania.
