  NoDQ.com > Columns > Jay's Ways - Best Promotion Of 2016
Posted by Justin Watry on 01/13/2017 at 07:46 PM

"I honestly think that you are so good (different) at how you approach columns. I know some people take compliments lightly and such, but honestly, you should be a very proud man. Boatloads of people including me, read your columns ALL THE TIME. Me personally, I wake up every morning, and before I go to school, I read your column (I'm 16). Also, your consistency with your columns is amazing, just from reading them so much, I almost feel like I know your thought process (not that I do). So with all of that out of the way, thank you."

411mania.com Year End Awards

Stay tuned to 411mania in the upcoming days/weeks. There are a ton of year end awards to be handed out, and yes, I gave my votes. Very interesting 2016 indeed. Now up! Go read 411mania for that.

Best Non-Wrestler Of 2016

5. The Pope (Love Alive charity)
4. Lana
3. Renee Young
2. JBL

1. Corey Graves - As usual, I was ahead of the curve on a topic. I was singing the praises of Corey Graves well before most even knew he was a featured player all across the WWE Network. For the second year in a row, he is the man to talk about for best non-wrestler in the industry. Not even close. He is so good at everything. Whether it is a serious role or being the comedic heel for the face commentator to argue with, Graves 'gets it.' If WWE ever needs another manager or personality to get in the ring (nothing physical obviously) to shake up the formula, look no further than this man. I can't imagine NXT without Corey Graves, so let's hope, as he expands, he stays there as well. Hey, a man can dream, right?

Best Tag Team Of 2016

5. The Dudleyz
4. American Alpha
3. The Revival
2. #DIY

1. The New Day - See, no bias from me. Even though they didn't defend the tag titles at Survivor Series 2015 (last year), Fastlane, WrestleMania 32, Payback, Battleground, and Survivor Series, yeah. With non-title losses all the time and multiple pay-per-view losses in between, of course. Nothing I have not already said a million times, so we can move on to why they are my #1 pick. Simple. Despite all the faults of their Honky Tonk Man style run as tag team champions, the fact remains they DID set the record for longest reign ever. Thus, for history alone, The New Day get the top spot. Whether it is actually deserved or not is up to you.

Worst PPV/Major Show Of 2016

5. NXT Takeover: The End
4. Roadblock (March)
3. Payback
2. Roadblock (December)

1. Anything TNA Impact Wrestling related - No explanation needed.

Best Female Wrestler Of 2016

5. Sasha Banks
4. Becky Lynch
3. Asuka
2. Bayley

1. Charlotte - A pretty stacked category where any of the five could win. If Nikki Bella was around for most of the year, she would have also made for a strong contender. Same with Alexa Bliss, who came out late in the year for a push. Not enough though, her year could be 2017. In the end, everything revolved around Charlotte and with good reason. Make no mistake, her father may be Ric Flair, but she is 100% deserving of all the praise and accolades. From NXT to WWE, she is dominating the women's division and absolutely delivering in the ring. Main eventing RAW is now common place for her, as is getting a prime slot on pay-per-view. Including a great performance at WrestleMania 32 (where she kept the title in a thrilling triple threat match as I predicted) As Womens Champion once again, Charlotte leads Raw into WrestleMania season. No better choice.

Best Promotion Of 2016

5. GoldFW
4. Lucha Underground
3. Ring of Honor
2. WWE

1. NXT - Save me the junk about NXT being a part of WWE. I get it, third brand and all. Doesn't matter. NXT is everything that is right about the wrestling business. Seriously, the only negative I have with the company in 2016 is taking the giant leap to tour regularly while I felt more baby steps would have been wiser. Still, the on air product, live specials, and amazing roster is more than capable of being its own promotion. While RAW and Smackdown are still hit or miss for WWE, there is a reason why people think of NXT as its own entity. It's THAT much different...and better. As I wrote about last week, 2017 is going to be a very interesting for the future of NXT. All we can do is sit back and wonder if the bubble has burst or is it still growing?
