  NoDQ.com > Columns > Tombstone Wednesday–Post Chamber/PreMania Thoughts
Posted by Kenny McIntosh on 02/22/2012 at 08:06 PM

For one week only, you get your Tombstone on a Wednesday rather than a Tuesday. Normal service shall resume next week. I was thinking about column ideas and there’s so much to talk about this past week in WWE, that I felt compelled to just share some thoughts with all y’all here at NODQ.

-Elimination Chamber was an average PPV offering. It wasn’t bad but it just wasn’t memorable. Cena had to win to build his match with The Rock and he did. Punk was predicted to retain the WWE title and he did. Beth Phoenix had to bash through Tamina en-route to her probable Mania programme with Kharma. The surprise of the night was the 5 minute sequence at the end of the World Title Chamber match with Santino and Daniel Bryan. Santino is a great comedic mid carder. But in that sequence, I found myself being hooked in and being caught up in every move hoping the Italian unibrow superstar could pull off the impossible and become the World Champion. In the end he didn’t, but for those few minutes, I believed he could. That’s the sort of storytelling I’d love to see more of.

-The feud with John Cena and The Rock has been well documented. The build so far hasn’t exactly gotten people very excited. The anti climatic end of Survivor Series being a recent example. On Monday night, John Cena came to the ring and delivered the best interview of his career. He spoke from the heart. You can tell he believed some of the things he was saying and it hooked me. He got me excited for WrestleMania. He got me pumped about Dwayne’s response next week. The key thing here is Cena’s ‘shoot promo’ didn’t contain poo jokes, gay jokes or anything like that. It felt real and if this is the beginning, I can’t wait to see where Cena and Rock take it in the next five weeks leading up to Miami.

-Fans over the past few months have questioned the need for a Second (Third if you count WM17) Mania match with Undertaker and Triple H. I think Monday on RAW they proved their point. HHH took Taker to the limit and left him laying. Taker isn’t happy and wants to end ‘The Game’ HHH agreeing only if it’s in Hell In A Cell is just a perfect stipulation. This is a match both guys are synonymous with in their careers. With the potential of HBK as guest referee, this match could steal the show. For what it’s worth, the idea of not showing what Taker looks like with his hair cut until April 1st seems like a clever move and fans will be genuinely intrigued as to what ‘The Dead Man’ will look like when the hood comes off at the big show.

-I was disappointed by WWE’s announcement that Shaquille O’Neal won’t be wrestling at WrestleMania. A match between Shaq and Big Show would’ve been a fun match for the World’s largest athlete. Big Show and Cody Rhodes seems like an odd match to have but I guess if the Intercontinental Champ goes over then it’s all for a good cause.

-I care less about Sheamus v. Daniel Bryan than I did last week. We have no reason to care about the feud. This match should open the show. If it follows anything else, the fans might not give a crap.

- Finally, I hope that at the big show in Miami, Zack Ryder will get some retribution on Kane. The Big Red Machine is in the latter stages of his career and helping a young guy like Ryder would be a great thing for Kane’s career.

I’ll be back this weekend with my Mania travel diary from New York for WrestleMania XX.

Stay Classy NODQ…..
