NoDQ.com > Columns > New NoDQ Column - What Comes NXT?
Posted by Zach Levine on 02/07/2010 at 11:02 PM

Hey everybody! First off just want to thank the guys here at nodq.com for allowing me to write this column for all of you to enjoy. My name is Zach Levine, and I am quite pleased to be writing wrestling columns for you in the coming weeks and months. Wrestling is a passion of mine, and it is quite frankly one of my favorite things to discuss. So let's get to Column #1.

Alright, I'm afraid to discuss this because most of you will probably start laughing at me, and it's just my first column, but my favorite wrestling promotion over the past few years has been ECW. Maybe it's because I'm a Mets and Jets fan and I always root for the underdog, but I've had more of an attachment to this show than RAW or Smackdown. And I refuse to discuss TNA until The Nasty Boys are off my television. Someone want to explain to me why they are on TV, yet I haven't seen Jay Lethal in months?

Regardless, I have been a big ECW supporter since the debut of CM Punk. Because of Punk, the WWE figured out how to use this brand. Mix established veterans like Christian, Shelton Benjamin, William Regal, Matt Hardy etc. with newcomers.

And look at this lineup of stars who have emerged in the WWE thanks to ECW. Punk, Kofi, Swagger, Bourne, Sheamus, Hart Dynasty, and the list goes on.

Then you think about how numerous mid carders got their chance for a refresher in ECW. Guys like Miz, Morrison, Henry, Hardy, Shelton Benjamin, and that list goes on.

So it was sad for me to see Vince crap on the brand so quickly this past week. However, I am very interested to see what comes next for NXT. Here are my thoughts...

I say next week, have Tiffany come out and explain what the brand is. Perhaps NXT is a brand that features new stars for 1 year, and when the year is up, they move to Raw or Smackdown. But for that year, they work their tails off in quality matches, kind of like a nationwide version of FCW.

Two weeks from now, on the final broadcast, make it the last one for Christian. Allow him to be the final ECW champion and have him say a nice speech about the end of the company. He then moves to Smackdown. I'd also give one more win for Shelton and have him go off to RAW.

NXT debuts in three weeks, and I feel like the WWE's best option is to keep the show the same, but continually debut new stars. Perhaps the first episode, have a 4 person fatal four way match to crown the first NXT Champion. I'd put in Zeke, Yoshi, Ryder and Kaval. I'd have Kaval get the win in his first NXT match.

Following week I'd have Zeke challenge Kaval, with him losing by dq when him and Regal stomp Kaval mercilessly. When this happens, enter the Dragon... American Dragon. I want Danielson debuting on this show, helping out Kaval, with the announcers playing up their storied history.

From there on, I'd have a feud slowly build, with a hell of a Wrestlemania 26 match booked between Kaval and Danielson. Perhaps we can get a CM Punk cameo in there too just to completely make me one of the happiest wrestling fans in the world.

Regardless, as bummed as I am about losing ECW for good, I look forward to NXT and all of the possibilities it brings. Thanks for reading and if anyone from WWE is reading, push Shelton Benjamin!
