Blowin’ Smoke with Kemper Jones

In case you didn’t read my SD! column…

DAMN YOU, NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. WII! You have made me lazy when it comes to getting my Smackdown and Raw columns done this past week. As can be expected, I didn’t make any progress on my SvR storyline either because I was too busy traversing the landscapes of the Mushroom Kingdom. Luckily, I beat Bowser last night so the immediate need to play the game has now sufficed and I can get back to my storyline. Sure, I need to go back and collect all the star coins and beat World 9, but I’m gonna do my best to put that off till the storyline is done. I really want to get it done so others can enjoy it.

Raw 11/16/09 – Afterthoughts Lite

I feel that Piper did a good job of hosting. I’ve been trying to get my host thoughts out of the way in the beginning of my columns because I don’t want to talk too much about them throughout. I don’t feel like they should be the focus of the show so I try to ignore it as much as possible. That’s kind of hard to do when they overdo it though.

I can’t tell you how happy I was to see The Miz go over MVP clean. Recent decisive victories over Kofi, John Morrison, and MVP put him in a rare spot. I don’t usually see heels win cleanly that often. Good for him. Of course, it seemed like the only reason that dragged MVP out for a solo match was because Sherri Shepard was in attendance. I wonder how let down MVP is that Kofi seems to be getting the push that it seemed like he was going to get when he was first drafted to Raw.

Santino vs. Chavo was nothing more but a way to involve Hornswoggle in one of Chavo’s matches once again. Not a whole lot to say about that. It was after the match that as much as I hate to say it, I was kind of intrigued. I know, I know. “Intrigued” is quite a lofty word to use when describing HHH giving a pedigree to a leprechaun, but I really didn’t see it coming. As much as I don’t like HHH, I do prefer him as a heel. The look on his face before and after gave me hope that he may walk out of Survivor Series as a full-fledged heel. I’ll get more into that when I get my PPV prediction column done.

Melina and Alicia Fox put on a decent match for two divas that I typically don’t like all that much. It did end abruptly though with Melina retaining the belt. With Mickie and Beth gone from Raw, the Divas really need to step it up though. I think Kelly Kelly’s in ring work has improved enough over the past year that she could be a legitimate contender for the Diva’s title. We’ll see what happens.

Sheamus made an open challenge to the back and noone came out. I really can’t stand it when noone comes out to an open challenge. You’re telling me that absolutely noone in back wanted to shut this guy up. Instead he beats up the timekeeper (I think) and Jerry Lawler. I hate to say it but I would’ve rather just seen him squash another local jobber.

Jack Swagger avenged his loss to Evan Bourne by decisively defeating him this week. I’m assuming that during the Survivor Series, something will happen during the Team Morrison vs. Team Miz match to further progress the Bourne/Swagger/Miz/US title picture.

I would’ve really liked to see Piper and McMahon but that didn’t happen. What we got instead was another showcase of Kofi Kingston. I’m glad Randy Orton is so willing to put this guy over. Orton has had a lot of time at the top and it’s nice to see him returning the favor to one of the young up and coming stars. The fight that broke out between the two was great and it culminated with a boom drop off the railing through a table. There has to be a one-on-one between these two at the TLC PPV. If there is, it might be a show stealer.

For a main event with so many big names in it, I thought the triple threat tag match came off very well. Everyone got a chance to shine. Cena picked up the pin on HHH after an Attitude Adjustment. You didn’t think Cena’s loss to HHH a month or so ago came free did you? After the match, Taker tombstoned Cena. How great was that? I’ve heard that this may have been a way to plan the seed for a match-up between the two at Wrestlemania. It’s a little early but I will say, I wouldn’t mind seeing that as long as Super Cena isn’t the one to end the streak.

I hope to get a Smackdown column and PPV predictions done tomorrow so stay tuned. I’m still waiting to hear any feedback from readers. Can someone at least let me know that they’re reading? I’d really like to have some commentary from my audience.
