Blowin’ Smoke with Kemper Jones

DAMN YOU, NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. WII! You have made me lazy when it comes to getting my Smackdown and Raw columns done this past week. As can be expected, I didn’t make any progress on my SvR storyline either because I was too busy traversing the landscapes of the Mushroom Kingdom. Luckily, I beat Bowser last night so the immediate need to play the game has now sufficed and I can get back to my storyline. Sure, I need to go back and collect all the star coins and beat World 9, but I’m gonna do my best to put that off till the storyline is done. I really want to get it done so others can enjoy it.

Smackdown 11/13/09 - Afterthoughts Lite

Yeah, I gotta go with the “lite” format again this week considering I’d like to get my Raw column done. I’m also hoping to get a column written for tonight’s show and as well as Survivor Series predictions.

Beth Phoenix defeated yet another local competitor. I’m not even going to go into this again. At this rate, Beth and Sheamus should be on the same show and just become a mixed tag team. It would save some TV time for something meaningful.

Drew McIntyre and Finlay fought to a double-DQ. Seriously, how many matches has Drew McIntyre been in that have ended in actual decisions? I think maybe two. I don’t know if the guy is capable of having a good match or not. Perhaps they should at least give him a chance. And if he can’t put on a real match then they should stop pushing him and stop wasting time with these stupid endings and brawls.

I can’t help but feel bad for Mickie James now. She goes from being the best dominant Diva on Raw to tapping out to Natalya. I couldn’t even tell if she tapped due to being in pain or because she couldn’t stand the sight of Michelle McCool and Layla cutting up her clothes. It was by far one of the worst endings to a match I’ve ever seen. She must really be in the doghouse if this is what has become of her.

CM Punk vs. R-Truth was halfway decent. I’m still not decided on whether this feud hurts Punk or helps Truth. They both delivered long promos before the match and it was fairly entertaining. Punk pulled of the victory by holding the ropes during the pin. I’m really hoping this is just a mini feud to put some kind of logic into having these two be on opposing teams at the PPV. I’m expecting Punk to move into a feud with Mysterio.

On another note, Survivor Series will be the second time that Punk will be teamed along with Orton and Legacy. I know they’re all heels now but I really wish they’d at least have Punk say something to them about costing him his World Title last year. He could just say something about not trusting them or something.

Once again, my hopes were shot when the Intercontinental title match ended in a double count out. I didn’t read the spoilers for tonight’s show, but this really has to be the last time Morrison and Ziggler go at it for a while. As much as I’m hoping Ziggler wins, I just don’t see it happening before the PPV. Please, oh please, let me be wrong.

Why did there had to be a contract signing for the Mysterio/Batista match? Isn’t this something usually reserved for title matches? The segment did go over well though. I really didn’t expect Mysterio to come out of the situation on top. Logic says though that Batista will win this Sunday and I’m assuming he’ll be moving on to feud with Taker.

I thought that the Undertaker vs. Jericho match was done very well. I’m glad that Taker did his best to put over Jericho’s offense without overselling it. I didn’t expect Jericho to win, but as predicted, I think it was Taker’s best match since Wrestlemania. I love that Jericho is the friggin’ master of reversals nowadays. It seems like every time you think he’s down, he turns it in his favor.

Post match, Show and Jericho beat down Undertaker leading up to the announcement that they’ll meet Taker and Kane tonight. Hopefully it’ll be a good match. It’ll be nice to see them team up again. It’s been a while.
