NoDQ.com > Columns > The People’s Column: Two Weeks of Random Thoughts
Posted by Will Pruett on 11/19/2009 at 01:30 AM

I must start this column with an apology to all of my readers. I am sorry for going MIA for the last two weeks. School got rather intense (as I was told Grad school tends to do) and I was there till about midnight for most of the two weeks. That being said, a lot has happened since my last column, but not enough for me to formulate a full and well thought out column, so you get some random thoughts!

I loved the Raw set from MSG this week. It gave the show a completely different, big arena, feel. Anytime that WWE’s production department decides to shake it up, I consider it a good idea, and this was no different.

Speaking for Raw in Madison Square Garden, it was a pretty decent show. Kofi Kingston stepped up from rising star to official star when he ran back and hit that leg drop. If only all of the young guys could have that kind of moment, they would all get over. Sadly, there are only so many Randy Ortons and production tables. If we eliminated all of them with leg drops, who would make sure we saw all of the WWE’s great action every week.

Mark Henry is really over as a face, how did that happen? He actually does well in that role. Color me surprised.

I have always found Survivor Series tag team matches a little boring. There are few that have genuinely interested me from beginning to end. They include the main event of the first Survivor Series (watched 20 years after the fact) and the Team DX vs Team Rated RKO match in 2006 (DX swept Rated RKO and left with all five team members intact).

I really wish Shawn Michaels would agree to win a World Title. He is the best in the world and deserves to be in main events every month. I also hope that he ends up in a meaningful program with Edge at some point before he retires.

Was I the only person worried when I saw CM Punk on ECW? I know that it was just a one time appearance, but I was concerned. CM Punk is a cornerstone of Smackdown and needs to stay there while his character recovers.

On a related note, I hate R-Truth. From his entrance, and the most non-sensical rap ever (“People over there, what’s up?” Really Truth, that is just pathetic) to his entire family friendly thug gimmick, I just cannot stand him. He is nowhere near CM Punk’s league.

I’ve said this since the beginning of my column writing; Christian needs to get off of ECW soon. He belongs on top of the ECW brand, but more than that, he belongs in main events on Raw and Smackdown.

The Undertaker, although a great talent, just seems a little slow at the moment. I know that he had some sort of surgery after Wrestlemania. I hope he returns to form soon. ‘Taker on his game is spectacular. ‘Taker off of his game does not deserve a World Title.

I officially love the Batista heel turn. Sure it is campy, but wrestling relies on being campy to survive. The attitude era was just a little more vulgar and campy. Campiness is a part of what the WWE does. Batista has a lot more charisma as a restrained heel than a grateful babyface.

Hornswoggle deserves what he got.

TNA’s triple threat match at Turning Point was decent, but no where near the previous encounter that the three of them had. It was just slightly more hype than substance. Still an accomplishment for TNA though.

Does anyone else notice that Hulk Hogan has officially had one press conference and taken two pictures for TNA? Perhaps we should forget about him changing the business and think about him showing up for a new photo shoot at some point?

Kurt Angle injured himself in a PPV main event. I could only be less surprised if he injured his opponent.

I’m thinking about doing some selected DVD reviews. I’ve bought a lot of WWE DVDs in the last year and could have some fun doing write ups on them. Perhaps I will do some really short ones and make it all one column. What do you think? An antithesis of “The Way Too Long Review” on Pulse?

I miss JR quite a bit every time I tune into Smackdown. I also love Matt Striker. The two of them could make a great team. I would also be willing to live with JBL and Michael Cole again, mainly just to hear JBL use the term “Fruit booty”.

That is all for this week my friends. If you have anything you’re dying for a brother to write about, let me know. If not, I’ll be back next week!
