Blowin’ Smoke with Kemper Jones

Raw 11/09/09 – Afterthoughts Lite

In case you didn’t read my Smackdown column…

I’m still not done with my SvR 2010 storyline but I’m happy to announce that progress moving along well. I have the first month of shows done but I do have a list of things I need to go back and touch up. I’m really hoping to get it done within the next 2 weeks.

Pardon my being late getting these columns out but it’s been kind of a busy week. I’m going to be doing this column in a “lite” format. I’m at work and really want to get this done before Smackdown airs tonight.

Onto the show…

I’m starting to hate that WWE seems to think that every wrestling fan also watches boxing. They also need to realize that boxers aren’t good actors. Ricky Hatton seemed so out of place all night. The thing about it though, is I don’t blame the hosts, I blame WWE. If you’re an entertainment company as you so loudly claim all the time, how come you can’t pick hosts that are actually entertaining. There have been a few, but most just don’t seem to get it.

Alicia Fox beat Kelly Kelly in what was the traditional “you eliminated me from the battle royal last week” follow up match. The whole match just seemed paced really awkwardly. They also had no reason to have Jillian and Gail Kim come out with the two competitors. They didn’t really add anything to the match.

Sheamus once again squashed a local guy, this time after using the Outsiders’ Edge. I’m not gonna go on about my hatred for the local jobber on TV again. Following up on this match though, Jamie Noble has announced his retirement as a result (kayfabe?) of his match with Sheamus last week. I can’t help but assume that this is WWEs way of “future endeavoring” Noble while putting the other guy over. Maybe he’ll turn up somewhere else some day.

Way to screw up the Swagger winning streak by having him lose to Evan Bourne. Did the “streak” do anything but prove that Swagger can beat Primo? I’m assuming this is leading up to a 3-way US title feud. However, if you’re gonna have someone try to go undefeated, it has to last more than a few weeks.

The VIP Lounge segment spotlighted Kofi and Orton. I think that MVP needs to fire his bouncer because he didn’t put up much of a fight when Orton and Legacy came out.

I don’t want this to come off as racist but doesn’t it kind of seem that except for Christian, Team Kofi may as well be called Team Affirmative Action? Not too long ago there was talk about WWE not pushing minorities, now they just lump them all together? Isn’t that even less PC than before? I’m assuming we’ll see a Team Kofi win at the PPV followed by a one-on-one match between Kofi and Orton at the TLC PPV in December.

The segment led into a Mark Henry vs. Orton match that saw Randy collect a receipt from his loss to Henry a few months ago. Maybe next week we’ll see Christian or Regal show up on Raw to support the rest of the team.

Ricky Hatton easily knocked out Chavo. Are we really to believe Chavo would actually win anyway? How about getting Chavo out of the comedy role and have him compete for the US title?

This whole DX/Hornswoggle thing ran it’s course before it even started. How long do they plan on letting this waste TV time?

We were “treated” to the same main event that we had less than a month ago when Jerishow went up against DX. This match ended with Jericho catching a KO punch from Big Show and getting pinned. I’m all for a Jerishow/DX feud but at least put the tag belts up for grabs. They announced pretty much the same main event for next week except it’ll also include the team of John Cena and The Undertaker so just expect more of the same.

I’ll do my damnedest to get my next columns up asap but I have a lot to do this weekend. Sister’s bday party, a friend’s bachelor party, and Sunday before work will be spent playing New Super Mario Bros Wii. Hopefully, that game won’t put the progress on my SvR storyline in too much jeopardy.
