Smackdown 11/06/09 - Afterthoughts Lite

I’m still not done with my SvR 2010 storyline but I’m happy to announce that progress moving along well. I have the first month of shows done but I do have a list of things I need to go back and touch up. I’m really hoping to get it done within the next 2 weeks.

Pardon my being late getting these columns out but it’s been kind of a busy week. I’m going to be doing this column in a “lite” format. I’m at work and really want to get this and my Raw column done before Smackdown airs tonight.

Onto the show...

I thoroughly enjoyed Chris Jericho interrupting the Undertaker. I can’t wait to see these two lock-up tonight for the first time. As long as Big Show or Kane don’t get involved I’m expecting this to be the best match the Undertaker has had since Wrestlemania.

I’m really sick of seeing the Batista/Rey situation being recapped. We get it. Batista isn’t a good guy anymore. Do they really need to show it over and over on every show?

It’s time to get another tag team or two on SD!. How many times in the past few months have we seen some kind of variation of Cryme Tyme vs. The Hart Dynasty? They do work well together, but there’s not really anything else for them to do against each other.

Once again, I’m happy to see Ziggler pick up a victory but I can’t help but assume we’ll see him walk out of SD! without the IC title once again tonight. I’m basing this off of the fact that Morrison is captaining a Survivor Series team and I really don’t see them having him drop it before then.

Enough of the local jobbers on TV. Save that for dark matches. Beth Phoenix beat Brittany Carter in the second straight squash by Phoenix. I’m imagining they’re trying to make her look like a threat to the Women’s title but it’s not like her resume doesn’t already speak for itself. She’s been an established Diva for years now.

Mike Knox vs. Mysterio is something I’ve seen in some way, shape, or form at least a dozen times. Mysterio being the “underdog” is so overdone at this point that it makes me sick. I really hope they don’t put him over Batista at the PPV. Let Big Dave destroy that little luchador.

Once again, I’m still at a loss trying to explain where CM Punk is heading. From the looks of Team Orton and Team Kofi, it looks like Punk is heading into a feud with R-Truth. I can’t tell whether this is a demotion for Punk or a promotion for Truth. Hopefully they put on a few decent matches and let that be the end of it. Punk’s character was doing so well till they had him drop the belt, but has lost most of the momentum he had. He really needs to be back in the title picture. They also need to finally get to the end of the whole “conspiracy” against Taker but I’m thinking they’re just dropping it and moving on. That’s typical for WWE though.

I’m officially pulling any of my support for Drew McIntyre. If they want to push him as a future champion, then they at least need to let him have real matches. Show us that he has potential. Having him beat up people when they have their backs turned or saying opponents aren’t worthy of fighting him just makes him look like a coward. I wish WWE would learn to push heels the way they used to. Just because they’re “bad guys” doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be good competitors.

The main event was just another way of cementing in people’s minds that the Batista they’ve known the past few years is gone. As I stated earlier, I think we all get it by now. Props to Matt Hardy though, the pic they had up on WWE.com with him in the camel clutch made me laugh my ass off. He really looked like he was being destroyed.

After months of putting on great shows, Smackdown has been kind of letting me down the past few weeks. I really hope it gets its groove back soon. I’ll be posting my Raw column soon so be sure to check it out.
