Blowin' Smoke with Kemper Jones

Yeah, I know I’m later than I said I’d be with this column. I couldn’t resist the urge to use my free time over the weekend to start my SvR 2010 storyline. I’m almost through the first month. I’m really excited about doing it and I can’t wait to get it finished so I can upload it for everyone else to try. I’m really trying to make it seem realistic. I feel that the dialogue and way the story is progressing really is something that you’d see on TV. I’m thinking maybe a week or two and I should be done.

Smackdown 10/30/09 – Afterthoughts

Please keep in mind that I forgot the notes that I took on the show at home. I’m at work right now writing this so if things are a little out of order or I forget anything, I apologize.

The show began with Jericho and Kane claiming that they deserved a World Title match. Teddy long set up a match between the two to determine who would be added to the Undertaker/Big Show match at the Survivor Series. That wouldn’t happen until later, though.

Out comes John Morrison and I’m wondering who they’ll have make him look good after his loss to The Miz. I’m glad I was wrong. Now that the Smackdown vs Raw theme of Bragging Rights is over, they were free to pick up the John Morrison/Dolph Ziggler feud where it left off. I’m really happy that being removed from the PPV didn’t slow Ziggler’s momentum or end up having him move on to another feud. They’re match was just as good as any of the ones they’ve had so far. It ended with Ziggler picking up the win via count out after slamming Morrison on the announce table. I’m figuring we’ll see these two lock-up at Survivor Series. Hopefully, Ziggler will get what is coming to him and he’ll walk out with the IC belt. As much as I hate to say it, if he doesn’t win it at the PPV, it’s time to move on. He’s had so many chances and lost. You can only try so many times till it just gets stale.

Matt Hardy beat Eric Escobar. Hardy badly sold a knee injury. Someone, please tell me why they brought this guy up from FCW. He doesn’t have a good look, much in ring skill, or genuine heat from the crowd. The only thing he has going for him is the fact that Vickie’s heat rubs off on him. Without her, noone would care about him at all.

I’m willing to give Drew McIntyre another week or so to put on a good match till I admit that I was wrong about any potential I thought he had. Sure, he beat the hell out of Finlay, but the match didn’t even start. Add it to the list of quick and/or pointless endings to his bouts. I can only assume they’ll have a rematch next week.

Vince McMahon gave CM Punk a match against referee, Scott Armstrong. I love Punk’s backstage segments and I his interactions with the CEO tend to be his best. It makes me wish he had been a heel all along. He seems more comfortable being a heel. The match was the squash you had to figure it would be. It was a ref after all. Armstrong did get a push and a few punches in though. I still want to know where this is heading.

I’m enjoying Batista as a heel as well. He seems a much more natural fit for the character. It always annoyed me to have this “animal” be soft and smiling all the time. It’s much more believable to have him be a loner that can pretty much destroy anyone that comes in his path. His segment with Mysterio dragged on a longer than I think it needed to. They threw in an Eddie comment which I think was great for the amount of heat it drew. He kept threatening Rey, but when Rey didn’t leave the ring, Batista just walked away. There was also a backstage interaction between Batista and Matt Hardy that led to the announcement that the two will meet next week.

Cryme Tyme hosted a Diva Halloween costume contest that was won by Mickie James (were you expecting someone else?). I personally would’ve given the win to Layla and her Michael Jackson costume/dance routine.

Beth Phoenix defeated a local competitor named Jennie something. This match didn’t last long at all. Am I the only one that doesn’t understand why they put matches like this on TV? If it’s a tryout match then keep it as a dark match. The announcers always put over the more well known star as if the local person had a chance. What dominance does it show to beat a nobody?

The main event didn’t disappoint. In case you can’t tell by now, I’m a huge Jericho fan. Kane and him put on a good match though that’s not really a surprise. Anyone that has a match with Jericho is likely to have a better match with him than anyone else in the WWE. I know that sounds like blind praise, but if you watch his matches regularly you know it’s true. Jericho pulled off the win by hitting a Codebreaker while Kane was jumping off the top rope.

This makes the Heavyweight title match at the Survivor Series a triple threat between Jericho, The Undertaker, and Big Show. I can totally see Jericho pulling a cheap win in this one and having it further the friction between him and Show. I can’t wait.

As I said in the beginning, I wrote this without notes. If I missed anything I’m sorry.
