  NoDQ.com > Columns > To The Limit - A Fan's Choice Hall of Fame
Posted by Bobby Lendzinski on 11/02/2009 at 11:48 PM

I proposed this idea to some of my wrestling buddies and they seemed to like it. So, now that I am a columnist for NoDQ.com, let me get your reaction:

I have an idea for a new Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame that has somewhat of a People's Choice Awards feel to it, only a million times better.

For details, here is what I originally had slated for HOF credentials with some changes/additions.

I have devised a Hall of Fame Idea for all fans of professional wrestling. Here is how it works:

A. Every year, we, the fans of prowrestling, will induct 6 men and 1 woman into our Hall of Fame. This will transcend the major organizations and will honor all retired or deceased prowrestlers.

A. The categories (6 in all)

1. Main Event Wrestler
2. Female Wrestler
3. Tag Team
4. Wrestler (non-Main Event)
5. Personalities
6. Pre-Modern Wrestler or Personality (involved in the business between 1898 and 1984)

- Explanations below

B. Which promotions will be involved?
- All promotions from around the world.

C. Who would be eligible?
- Retired or deceased wrestlers/personalities or active with 25 or more years of service.

D. How would the Hall of Fame be chosen?
1. Myself and a group of wrestling insiders/bloggers/reporters would choose five (5) people in each category to be voted in for a particular class year. No one who has worked directly for one of the big companies will be on this committee.

2. A short bio or reason for picking the nominees will be given in April before the voting by the fans begins.

3. The fans would vote online over a one month period in May, but the results will not be know until the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony every July.

4. During the month of June, a biography of the wrestlers and personalities chosen will be put together as well as a video tribute to their career or a series of videos if possible.

I will do my best to contact the wrestler or their family to let them know about their victory just in case they want to send in a thank you via video.

All nominees from the previous year's vote would be eligible the following year so long as they receive at least 15% of the vote. Those that do not receive 15% of the vote, would be eligible for future consideration, but not the following year.

Here are the categories defined more specifically:

5 Main Event Nominees
- 5 stars who are known world wide for their main event status. This category will mostly be the World Champions of WCW, WWE, and TNA and other wrestlers who have headlined multiple pay-per-views.

5 Female Wrestler Nominees
- 5 female wrestlers who made a name for themselves between 1984 and today.

5 Tag Team Nominees (not including tag teams with wrestlers who excelled as singles stars, ex.: no Hart Foundation because Bret Hart had his own credentials)

5 Wrestlers (non-main eventers)
Nominees could be wrestlers from any of the following categories:
- Mid-card wrestler (champion or not: this would be Intercontinental, United States)
- Cruiserweight
- Giant
- Hardcore
- One half of a tag team member whose tag member went on to Main Event stardom. (such as Jim Niedhart of the Hart Foundation)
- Indy Wrestler
- International Wrestler

5 Personalities
Nominees could include:
- a promoter or booker
- an announcer/referee/ring announcer/backstage interviewer
- a manager/valet/associate (associate would be someone like Virgil)
- a celebrity who briefly became involved in the wrestling business
- a Little Person Wrestler (Midget Wrestler)
- Jobbers
- Gimmick Wrestlers

5 Pre-Modern Wreslers or Personalities
Nominees could include:
- Wrestlers from 1898 through 1984 who did not make it to the WWE or retired within that year.
- Promoters or Pioneers in the business
- Announcers, Commentators, Valets, Managers, Midgets

Later this week, I will profile my favorite manager of all time and take a look at the mid-card title scene in the WWE.

As always, taking it To The Limit,
Bobby L
