Posted by Bobby Lendzinski on 10/29/2009 at 10:53 PM

I am annoyed, and who isn't, at the lack of storyline progression in the WWE. I am even more annoyed at the Title picture in the WWE.

Gone are the days when Champions held the title for more than three months. So, in this article, I am going to review the Title scene for the WWE's Diva Division. I will look at each title, and look at what other titles could work for the WWE, and which the WWE should steer clear of.

Let's start off with the newest of the WWE Championships, the Divas Championships. The title was first won by Michelle McCool on July 20, 2008 at the then titled Great American Bash. For being the first Divas Champion, she held the title just over five months, losing it to Maryse on December 22, 2008 (but it aired on Smackdown on December 26, 2008). Maryse held the title for a good seven months, dropping the title to Mickie James at the Night of Champions Pay-Per-View (PPV). To me, a six month reign in the WWE today is considered a good reign. Who knows how long Maryse would have held the title had she not been injured and needed time off.

I thought we had a Divas Champion that we could believe in; someone who hold the title for at least another six months, but the WWE chose otherwise. Mickie James was frustrated on Raw after a series of botches from then opponent Gail Kim (who is usually adament about her performances). So, instead of giving Mickie a good feud, they had her drop the title to Jillian Hall on October 12, 2009 on Monday Night Raw. Shortly after, Mickie was traded to Smackdown, which brought over Melina.

This is where this becomes really ridiculous. Jillian Hall, who in reality is an excellent singer and one of the best female wrestlers on the WWE Roster, lost the title, just 4 minutes and 30 seconds later to Melina. I can only hope that this becomes a serious feud, and that the WWE hands the Divas Championship back to Jillian Hall sometime in the near future, and keep the title on her for some time. Jillian had put her time in at the WWE Developmental level unlike most of the Divas and has been a great asset since joining the Main Roster on July 28, 2005. It's been more than four years, and she finally holds one of two WWE women's titles. To me, that's ashame.

Then there's the on again - off again Women's Championship. It is one of the most prestigious Championships because of its long and storied "career". The WWE dates the title back to September 18, 1956 when the Fabulous Moolah won the title. She would drop it nearly 30 years later to Wendi Richter (in 1984). The WWE Women's Title has been deactivated twice, once in 1990 and then again in 1995 when Alundra Blayze left the WWE with the title and signed with WCW.

Today, the Women's Title has been one of the most consistent titles. Let me go back a little over a year ago. Beth Phoenix won the title off of Mickie James on August 17, 2008. She would hold the title a little of five months, when she would lose it to Melina on January 25, 2009 at the Royal Rumble. Again, the title would stay in Melina's hands for just over five months. She would lose it to Michelle McCool on June 28, 2009 at the Bash. McCool has since held the title for a little over four months.

I really hope that Michelle McCool faces off against Beth Phoenix. Phoenix has proven time and again that she deserves to be the Champion. Of course, if Mickie James hangs in there on Smackdown, I wouldn't mind seeing Mickie as the Women's Champion. Natalya will be a future Champion for sure, but she still needs more ring time and a good feud.

What I would like to see is for the WWE to unite the Women's and Divas Championship, and let some of the Divas get proper training. Allow the Divas Champion to fight across all three brands. I would also like to see the WWE sign more female wrestlers, not "show pieces", but wrestlers like TNA is doing and open up. Then, open up a Women's Tag Team Division, but only if the WWE signs more female WRESTLERS.

In my next article, I will review the mid-card level titles and comment on mid-card titles I would like to see in the WWE, and where the division should go from here.
