NoDQ.com > Columns > RD: "Phoning It In" for Night Of Champions
Posted by Raging Demons on 06/29/2008 at 03:16 AM

Seriously. There are at times I don't know what the heck WWE does from time to time.

The WWE Pay-Per-View "Night Of Champions" is around the corner. This is a themed Pay-Per-View. The theme is that anybody and everybody that has a title within WWE, no matter what brand they are in, has to defend the title.

But a couple of screwy things here made this Pay-Per-View a head scracther. One: There are two matches that are not on the card yet. Chris Jericho defending the Intercontinental Title versus a "mystery opponent". Adding to that Natalya versus "whomever" to crown the new Diva Title (best guess is that's going to be Michelle McCool and she's going to be the champion.). Two: A little thing called the "WWE Draft". Just like the ole Roddy Piper quote: "Just when you think you have the answers, I change the questions." Meaning what we thought we know who's going to win before the Draft, is now changed thanks to the Draft.

While thanks to the most recent NoDQ.com poll has shown that this Pay-Per-View has interest of watching paint dry. I'll try to make this spectacular.

The current card as of this Pay-Per-View is from wwe.com as of this column; not counting Jericho vs "mystery opponent" nor Natalya vs "mystery opponent"

WWE Championship Title Match
"GONAD" Triple H defending the title versus "Kal-El" John Cena
Winner: John Cena
Reason: Since Triple H is drafted over to Smackdown AND that Cena's back from filming "12 Rounds". The Last Son From Krypton A.K.A. Cena should be an easy lock for the title.

World Heavyweight Title Match
Edge defending the title versus Batista
Winner: Edge
Reason: Same reason as before. With Batista at RAW this one is an easy choice.

This is based on how WWE views the brands. Also adding since the WWE Title is their number one title also adding that the Title is still looked like how Cena made the title. If they changed it around that would mean the World Heavyweight Title goes to RAW & the WWE Title goes to Smackdown. Which would be somewhat of a surprise.

ECW World Title Match
Triple Threat Match
Kane defends the title versus The Big Show & Mark Henry
Winner: Mark Henry
Reason: Thanks to the WWE Draft, Kane is now on RAW. Why? I do not know. But here's the odd thing. In about a month or so ECW will switch over from taping with Smackdown to taping with RAW. Logic would say that Kane could stick with the title for a month or so during their remaining time with Smackdown. But I have a feeling that Mark Henry could add a storyline value to it. Thus my choice.

United States Title Match
Matt Hardy defends the title versus Chavo Guerrero
Winner: Chavo Guerrero
Reason: For storyline purposes since the "wedding" of Edge & Vickie Guerrero is supposed to happen soon Chavo can have a quick title run for a few. That and Hardy is now on ECW and that means the title has to be off him soon.

World Tag Title Match
Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes defends the title versus Ted DiBiase Jr. & "The Mystery Partner"
Winner: Ted DiBiase Jr. & "The Mystery Partner"
Reason: "The Mystery Partner" looks like it's going to be Deuce since the "rumored" partner of DH Smith is at Smackdown thanks to the WWE Draft. Since Rhodes & Holly haven't been wrestling the titles as of late, and I am not kidding since it takes them up to three months to defend the titles. Using the tag titles to push "The Mystery Partner" & DiBiase, along with the rumors of Rhodes betraying Holly, makes a lot of sense.

WWE Tag Titles Match
John Morrison & The Miz defend the titles versus Hornswoggle & Finlay
Winner: John Morrison & The Miz
Reason: Well since Morrison & The Miz have about a month or so until the titles stay on Smackdown. Why not let them enjoy it for a bit.

Women's Title Match
Mickie James defends the title versus Katie Lea Burchill
Winner: Mickie James
Reason: Burchill just recently was added to the RAW roster. It would be a little bit too soon for her to win the title.

That's the best that I can do with this Pay-Per-View. If anybody can do better go right ahead!

Dawn Marie & Myself are still asking for people to help out The Carrie Deussing RSD Foundation for any possible charitable contributions. So if you can please donate, it would be mostly appreciated. Also Dawn Marie has accepted some booking appointments so check out here and here and ask her in person if you can help her out to "Tame The Flame."

Until next time. I can ride my bike with no handlebars, no handlebars, no handlebars.
