NoDQ.com > Columns > In the Front Row: '08 Draft Thoughts
Posted by Thorias on 06/27/2008 at 01:42 PM

RAW was very good, and the draft was awesome, and here’s my opinion.

Today’s Topic: The Inevitable Draft Column

Things kicked off to a good start with Rey getting drafted to RAW, I don’t think Rey has ever been a part of the RAW roster and has only appeared on it for the special tri-brand episodes, so this move was a very good one, and opens up a lot of new possibilities for Rey. Rey has been boring me on Smackdown for a while now, ever since he returned from his injury in 2007, but now with his move to RAW, I’m hoping some new and interesting things come from him.

Then Jeff Hardy went to Smackdown. I’m really supportive of this move too, Jeff has been on RAW for awhile, and feuded with almost everyone other than Cena, his move to Smackdown really opens up a lot of new feuds for him. I’d especially like to see him feud with Edge.

CM Punk to RAW….this can be either a good or bad thing depending on what CM Punk’s true backstage relationship is, I’m certainly interested to see what comes out of this, as well as what feuds come out of it.

Matt Hardy to ECW. This helps out ECW, not sure what it does for Matt.

Jim Ross to Smackdown? Hmmm….this move is weird, I didn’t expect it in the least bit. But it also makes sense that they’d want to move the announcers around some, and I hope Foley and Ross will make a good team, which they should.

But Cole to Raw? Mehhhhhhhh. I’m getting sick of Cole and his repetitive commentating, I hope Lawler can spice Cole up a little and make him a bit more interesting but who knows, we’ll see.

Batista to RAW…This is certainly an interesting move, also. The last time I actually enjoyed watching Batista was his feud with Triple H on RAW, so maybe his return to RAW will help put some of the missing intensity back into him that’s been missing for too long.

Umaga to Smackdown, I saw this move coming from a mile away, it’s been rumored for ages, and I’m glad to see that it finally took shape, Can’t wait to see what new feuds Umaga will get into on Smackdown, certainly going to be interesting.

Kane to Raw, didn’t see this one coming…Hm, not really sure what I think about it, I’ll just wait and see how it plays out.

Mr. Kennedy to Smackdown, He was doing great on Smackdown before getting drafted to Raw and from there he took a turn for the worse, but now that he’s back on Smackdown I hope to see that change, and him return to his former self, the Kennedy that was arrogant, and completely awesome.

Triple H to Smackdown. I did NOT see this one coming but I am so glad it did. Either Cena or HHH needed to goto Smackdown, and it really didn’t matter to me which one did, but Smackdown definitely needed more stars while RAW had too many, this really helps balance the tide though, and raises a lot of new possible feuds for HHH, can’t wait to see how this one turns out. Bravo, WWE.

And then for the Supplemental draft…..

Mark Henry to ECW, well this really builds up the star power for ECW I suppose, but still they took a bit of a crucial blow for losing Kane, It also makes me sad to see that ECW has trouble keeping one established talent at a time.

Jamie Noble to RAW, didn’t expect this one either. Not sure what to think about this one, I just hope that Noble isn’t forgotten on RAW, he’s very talented and could be a good asset if WWE knows how to use him right, I’d love to see a Punk/Noble feud for obvious reasons for ROH fans.

Murdoch to Smackdown, another move I saw coming and am really glad about, I hope Murdoch can manage to get a push from this.

Big Daddy V to Smackdown, meh, doesn’t change much because he was appearing on Smackdown normally anyway, plus he’s still inactive.

Deuce to RAW, hopefully this starts a singles push for Deuce and Domino would be nice to see, gonna be interesting seeing him on RAW, though.

DH Smith to Smackdown, I don’t know if this is good or bad but I do know it kills the chances for the Ted Dibiase JR/DH Smith tag team and that sucks, interested to who else will be Dibiase’s tag team partner then, and hope this helps in a push of talented DH Smith.

Hornswoggle to ECW, Not sure what I think about this yet either, certainly an interesting move, and I hope it bodes well for little Horny.

Super Crazy to ECW, now this move was spectacular, I really hope it means that we’ll be seeing more of Crazy because he was really underrated and underused on RAW.

Chuck Palumbo to RAW? Oh great, RAW’s gonna be getting a black hole of suck. Wonderful. It’s not that I have any problem with him, it’s just that he doesn’t seem to do anything interesting, maybe this move to RAW will be good for him, who knows.

Brian Kendrick to Smackdown, this can be either good or bad. Hopefully London and Kendrick gets pushes out of this, but if not then it can be really bad. Their both really good wrestlers and worked great as a tag team, I would really hate to see them not get used to their proper aspects, as has been recently on RAW.

Matt Striker to RAW…didn’t see this one coming, on one hand Big Daddy V loses what makes him interesting, the awesome manager that is Striker, on the other hand…I have a bad feeling of where this will leave Striker on RAW, hopefully he will appear more often, I really hope he doesn’t fall off the map like the last time he was on RAW.

Maria to Smackdown? Don’t really care about this one much, I don’t think it’ll help Maria out any, really.

Shelton Benjamin to Smackdown, eh. Hope this leads to a push, been awhile since I’ve seen him on Smackdown, he was getting a good push on ECW so I hope it continues.

Finlay to ECW, no surprise here since Horny is nothing without Finlay, and ECW has to get some kind of established talent before it’s completely stripped of everything redeeming about it.

Carlito to Smackdown, I hope this one makes Carlito happy, this could either lead to a good push or him eventually disappearing and leaving the company, I’m interesting in seeing which way it’s gonna go in.

Layla to RAW, don’t really care about this one either, I doubt it’ll do anything for her but we’ll see.

And last but not least.

Kofi Kingston to RAW. I really think this was too early for Kofi, he just debuted recently and has been doing great on ECW but I really hope they didn’t jump the gun on moving him to a bigger show already with this one. ECW is supposed to be there to help a lot of the newer talent get used to the WWE lifestyle, as well as help them gain experience on actual WWE television, it just seems as if it’d take longer than a few months before they get moved up, but then again Kofi is pretty over, and who knows, maybe 5 months was good enough time for him, maybe he’ll be a great addition to the RAW roster.

Either way, that’s my thoughts. I’ll be back sometime next week for my thoughts on One Night Stand.
