Hello everyone, welcome to another edition of "On The Mat" with Matt Henry. I have a few subjects I want to talk about today including the budding team of Santino and Carlito, as well as ECW's horrible new announcer Mike Adamle. Let's just get right into it shall we?
First of all Mike Adamle... This guy is absolute garbage behind a microphone! I don't get it? He made a horrible interviewer when he was just given a few minutes of airtime, so now someone makes the call to let this moron call an entire wrestling show?!? He knows nothing about the business. He does not know the names of the holds and moves. He doesn't even know the wrestlers names. As if those were not reason enough to fire this man, he is boring as hell to listen to! Mike Adamle brings about as much charisma to the announce table as sloth on mood control drugs.
I'm happy for Joey Styles that he is moving up the internal company ladder, and he truly deserves it. My question is what have the wrestling fans done to deserve having to listen to Adamle for an hour a week? It's painful to listen to this jabronie butcher match after match and segment after segment. I actually found myself loving "The Miz" last night when he blasted Mike Adamle on live TV. Adamle has no right to be anywhere near the wrestling business. He was lame as an announcer back on the first run of American Gladiators, and he has not gotten better with time.
I could walk out on to ECW TV with no script, drink a case of beer, smoke a bag of weed, and still do the job a hundred times better than Mike Adamle! His goofy comments about Kofi Kingston are so cheesy it's sickening. Taz and Joey had such great chemistry together, and now we are stuck with this joke of a play by play man. The great Gordon Solie must be spinning in his grave, and Good Ole' J.R. must be sick to his stomach. I'm just stunned that he was even allowed in the building this week for ECW. If I were Vince McMahon I would have pulled the plug on his announcing career after 5 minutes of his first show. Adamle with a live microphone in his hand is like driving the final nail in ECW's coffin.
Now onto something a little more positive. I'm a fan of the new team of Carlito and Santino Marrella. I really like the idea of calling them the "International Superstars". Here is a freebie for the WWE creative team. Give this team a real gimmick and let them run with it! Drop Santino's last name. Call them Carlito and Santino, "The International Superstars". Give Carlito a respectable haircut, and send these 2 out to do promos in Italian suits, dress shoes, and sunglasses. Package them as elitist snobs with attitude. Allow Santino to be the funny goofy one, while Carlito plays the smart ass leader of the team. Give them matching black ring gear with some kind of flash to it. I really think these 2 guys could make that gimmick work and get over big with it.
Instead of just throwing the 2 together because you don't know what to do with them give them something to work with. This is a gimmick tailor made for Carlito, and Santino as well. Let them use their edgy smart ass humor to belittle the fans, and their opponents. Who wouldn't hate 2 wealthy, young, rude, European types? There you go WWE! Take the idea and run with it. That one's on the house, but I got a hundred more to go along with it. Call me up Vinnie Mac, let's make money!
Another subject I would like to touch briefly on is the angle between Batista, HBK, and now Jericho. At first I didn't like this feud, but I find myself enjoying the blurring of the lines between faces and heels here. Adding Jericho into the mix as a referee makes for an interesting outcome. Before this match all 3 men were clear cut baby faces, but as you put the 3 together the fans have been confused as to who they are supposed to be cheering for. Batista has done a nice job of getting sympathy from the crowd, and HBK seems to have embraced his roll as the sort of bad guy. Jericho as always makes for a great instigator and "pot stirrer". I see this one ending with Batista coming out as the victor due to Jericho screwing HBK. This allows Y2J to turn heel and feud with HBK. A match I have been dying to see again!
Lastly I hate to admit it, but I am really looking forward to seeing the clash of the titans between Big Show and Khali. I know this match will be a stink fest. Khali can't work at all, and Big Show is mediocre at best. However, fact is fact. These are the 2 largest men the business has seen in a very long time. Putting the 2 together was inevitable and I am eager to see the 2 have an epic brawl. My feeling is this one will end in some kind of confusion so the feud can continue. It is also very possible that the WWE knows the match will be a disaster and they will allow the feud to end after just one encounter. If this is the case there is no doubt that the Big Show will be the clear winner. He did the job at Mania, so he has earned a win over the less popular and less athletic Khali.
That is all I have for today folks. In closing I beg the WWE to replace Mike Adamle! I encourage all you fans out there to write in as well and do our part to save some dignity for the ECW name. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE would do a better job than him. Even Taz on his own would be more appealing. Ok, ok, enough of my pissing and moaning! I hope you all enjoyed the read. Have a great week and be good to each other. Until next time, this has been "On The Mat", with Matt Henry.
