Cheesy title, I know. In this column I’m going to talk about the Miz. There’s quite a bit I have to say about this other guy that a lot of other people don’t see. First of all, I want to give him credit for that really awesome 15+ minute match with CM Punk on ECW this week. I know most people don’t like the Miz, and I didn’t either at first. But that has really changed, and I’m going to explain why.
Today’s Topic: The Miz
When The Miz first debuted as some guy in the crowd that got the audience hyped, back in ‘06, I thought the same thing as every one else. I thought he was just some reality star who chose wrestling to try and keep what little bit of fame he had left, I thought he had no potential, in fact when he started wrestling, I thought he sucked at it. I also thought the guy wouldn’t last more than a year. I admit over some time his wrestling skills improved a little bit, but I still thought he was going nowhere. I admit, I was a little bit of an ass of judging him before I really got to know him, but what do you expect when so many reality stars have tried doing the same thing with no results? In fact I thought he had no respect for the real business, or anything. I thought he sucked whether he tried being face or heel. His cockiness was just the run of the mill heel type, nothing special. I, probably as many others, thought he was useless, and didn’t want him on my TV for the longest time. Even after he moved to ECW, he didn’t interest me any.
Then they put him with John Morrison. At first I thought it was a bad idea, but I slowly realized how well they work together, with similar attitudes. But even then I really didn’t care for him much, even though I became a fan of John Morrison. Apparently, sometime at the beginning of 2008, I began noticing that Miz had been becoming a lot better wrestler, and I’ve slowly began to like him. He’s evolved as a cocky heel into something much more, and as of his match with CM Punk this week on ECW, I have to say, I’m now a Miz fan. I admit I was wrong for thinking he wouldn’t last long, and wrong for thinking that he didn’t really love wrestling. He’s certainly proved me wrong. I’m very surprised I’m even saying all of this, I never expected that he’d get quite good in the ring, and he knows how to work promo’s as well, all of this shows that he’s in it for all the right reasons and that he truly does care for the business. He plays the cocky heel role perfectly, and he works awesomely with John Morrison. Heck, I even enjoy their Dirt Sheet on WWE.com.
I have no clue what’s happened to him, but he’s entertaining now, and he’s good at wrestling, this is way different than 2 years ago, when he began. I certainly hope he continues on his road to success, I am certainly anticipating where he goes with his on screen persona, and very interested in seeing how much better he gets in the ring. So let me be one of the first few to ever admit it, I like watching the Miz, and I think he’s a good wrestler, and a great heel. Don’t believe me? Just watch him over the next couple of year’s. He’s only going to get better, and I bet eventually we’ll see him fighting for the ECW championship, and maybe in a few years, even the WWE or World Championship. And if I’m wrong, and he goes back to being sucky after he gets out of the tag team with Morrison, I’ll be sure to admit that I was wrong.
