I’m sorry for a late column, but I’ve been terribly sick, so bear with me if this column is a little bit short, or a little bit under the usual quality I try to keep my columns at.
So in this column I’m going to talk about Wrestlemania, and just the fact that I feel like something is missing.
Today’s Column: Thoughts about going into WM24.
I don’t know what it is, but I just feel like there is a lack of hype for all the feuds going into Wrestlemania, I know its not a lack of advertising, they are doing that to build it up just fine. But it just doesn’t have that “Biggest Wrestling Event of the Year” feel to me that it used to always have. Something is lacking, nothing feels all that special about it. I mean, yeah I’m excited, I’m sure it’s going to be great, but to me, it just feels like another pay-per-view like all the rest. I’m not sure what it is, but something is missing this year. I know I’ll probably feel different when it’s actually taking place, but I’m just not anticipating it at all like I usually do each year, this year its more like “Ah well, it’ll be here when it gets here” for me, rather than “Crap I wish time would hurry up and get to WrestleMania!”. I can’t put my finger on it…
Perhaps it’s because things feel a little bit too predictable this year, it just feels like there won’t be any surprises and it’ll just all be the same old thing, but its WRESTLEMANIA!!!! So I hope they pull something out of their sleeve that I won’t see coming. I’m not sure if that’s it or not, but it’s the closest thing I can think of as to any reason why I wouldn’t be overly excited. Though, I’ve looked around a few communities and it seems most people are very excited and I’m the only one who seems to have a little bit of doubt, It’s the biggest time of the year in the wrestling world, and to me it just doesn’t feel special this year, but there is still a week to go so they have time to change my mind. But really, they should have been hyping everything since the Rumble, but giving away Cena VS Orton on No Way Out really put a hiccup in the road, leaving them with only a few weeks to promote the Triple Threat for Wrestlemania.
It could also be that they are trying to push Big Show and Mayweather as a big match, but really, I don’t have too much interest in this feud, especially if Mayweather wins. I don’t even know what they are going to do with this match yet, is it going to be like a shoot fight or actual wrestling match, or what?
And it just seems to obvious that Ric Flair will be retired at Wrestlemania, there is no surprise there, unless he actually wins the match, but only time will tell, I’d actually like to see that happen, in a way.
With the way they are booking Undertaker and Edge it also seems obvious that Undertaker is winning, Plus I’d doubt they’d let his streak go. No surprise there.
And whether Triple H or Cena wins is obvious, it’s going to be either one of them, I’d only be surprised if they let Randy keep it which it’s obvious they aren’t going to do that. Sooo, no surprise there.
Really, the only thing surprising so far is going to be the Money in the Bank match, which is going to be an awesome match to boot.
Umaga and Batista? I can already see this match ending in a DQ, Countout or No Contest.
Finlay and JBL? Finlay definitely. I also have a feeling it’ll end the Hornswoggle storyline and there won’t be any mention of any “actual” song of Mcmahon, or any reason as to why that storyline took place in the first place.
There is one thing though, I think that whoever wins the Battle Royal for the ECW title shot is going to win the ECW title, as to who it will be though, that is going to be a possible surprise, and it’s going to be very interesting to see how that all goes down.
The card doesn’t seem to be lacking too much but the build-up just seems so stale, I don’t know what it is really about it, though. I hope they got a few cards up their sleeves, ‘cause I’m really hoping for some surprises. Any opinions or thoughts?
